Possible to involve non-Twitter users who are following me?
hi, i'm wondering if it's possible for non twitter users to send direct or @ messages to a particular Twitter user?

Inappropriate?Yes, sort of. If a non Twitter user sends a SMS message such as "@biz where are you?" to 40404 we will send them a message back asking them to tell us their name. Once they do, we create an account and post their update. (Similarly, you can tell non-users to follow you via SMS.)

Inappropriate?great! that makes sense. However, i'm from outside the USA, Canada and India, and am wondering if this service works internationally. I had my friends try it out, responding @litford to +447624801423, they got the "tell us your name" prompt, but when they replied, there was no follow up.
the reason why i'm asking, is because i want to give a demonstration of twitter as a great social media tool to people who have no idea what it's about, and probably would not have registered with Twitter to begin with.
