Problems recieving email notification from Twitter
I've had a small number of email notifications blocked over the last few days. Today I got the red popup reminder suggesting I check my email account is active, which it is.
The problem lies in an external spam blocking database which has one or more of your IP addresses added to it for 'sending spam'. Although I run my own email server and can stop this service easily it is very good at blocking spam and is used by many institutions and organizations. Apart from switching off at the server this end there are two ways round this.
The first is to contact those running the database and request your IP adress(s) cleared. Your emails are currently being blocked by 'Spamcop' who can be found here: http://www.spamcop.net/bl.shtml - Note that if I'm being blocked using this method then there are likely to be many more.
The second I can implement my end but I will need the IP address range that send out email reminders/direct messages (I get email for direct messages, new followers and from yourselves at the moment). These will be added to the email servers 'Allow' list or 'White list' so that email originating from yourselves bypasses all filters both internally and externally (as in the database).
I hope this helps and also one way or another can solve my problem.

Inappropriate?Hi Catherine. Solved the problem this end by 'Allowing' the IP addresses from Twitter DM and Follow (basically white listing them on my mail server). As for using external databases, which are very good and I have no intention of turning them off here, it's down to Twitter I'm afraid to contact the database owner to have themselves removed from the 'blacklist'.
They also need to plug the hole where the problem is being caused. It happens and they have lots of problems to solve I'm sure so I guess it's one of those things in a long list of jobs to do they will get round to.

Inappropriate?What are the IP addresses that you added to the white list? I'd like to tell my IT guy which ones to add. We are having the same problem here. -

2 ranges to pass on to your IT guy:
128.121.146.141 - 128.121.146.144
and
128.121.146.150 - 128.121.146.153
These appear to be the 'follow' and 'DM' ranges they use. I have no other notifications like news letters etc. so can't comment on those at this time. It works this end with no problems but I won't get complacent ... lol

Inappropriate?If anyone's using Postfix, here's what I did:
Under the smtpd_recipient_restrictions section in main.cf, add the following line in BEFORE where you have it set up to do spamcop checks:
check_sender_access hash:/etc/postfix/sender_checks
Then, create the file /etc/postfix/sender_checks, and add the following lines in:
postmaster.twitter.com OK
twitter.com OK
Then run postmap on /etc/postfix/sender_checks and reload postfix.
That's what worked for me.
