Setting up google talk.
How do I setup google talk on twitter? I am new at twitter. The device tab only offers to setup my phone. How to I setup my IM services to work with twitter?

Inappropriate? As of right now, you can't. IM has been down for almost 2 months now.
Check this thread. http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to...
I’m not happy

Is there an update on the status of this issue? waffles's reply was 29 days ago, so that's 3 months now -
Inappropriate?Nope, Twitter is still being a bunch of idiots and not telling us what is going on.
I’m pissed that Twitter thinks the schedule they're using to get IM back to working is apporpriate.

Inappropriate?Hello. While Twitter's own IM is still down, I've been using a third-party service called Twitt'd at http://twittd.nodehub.com to receive (and post) tweets via IM.
A few caveats:
1. Some people don't like using third-party sites for security reasons. You'll need to provide Twitt'd your Twitter password for this service to work.
2. This service does not provide 'real-time' updates because it regularly polls your account through the Twitter API. So usually there's a lag of around 5 to 10 minutes with receiving updates.
3. If you're a heavy API user because you also use other Twitter apps, using Twitt'd will eat into your hourly API limit.
The part that I like -- since I use GChat in Gmail, and GChat stores any chats that are received while I'm not logged into Gmail, I'm able to "catch up" with tweets that have come in while I as offline.

Inappropriate? Thanks MDY, I'll check that out. I used a similar service to get Tweets in Skype and is the only reason I've been running Skype in addition to Google Talk. I'd much prefer using only Google Talk, so this should be very helpful.
If Twitter doesn't get its act together, some group of enterprising individuals will come up with a similar service that will work with International phone numbers and support the major IM clients.
I’m happy with MDY's recommendation. Not so happy with Twitter.

Hi. Paul. 8-) In the month since I posted my reply above, I still continue to use Twitt'd. However, I've noticed that when traffic is especially heavy, the message delivery can fall behind by several (as many as 5) hours. It eventually catches up again when North America goes to sleep.
Also, posting TO Twitter isn't always reliable via Twitt'd. I worked around that by signing up with http://exclai.im (for posting to Twitter only) and http://ping.fm (for posting to multiple services in one action since I sometimes use Jaiku). They both work with Google Talk and they both only allow you to post; they don't send you updates.
So for now, my setup is Twitt'd to receive tweets, and Excla.im or ping.fm for sending tweets and DMs. Hope that helps. 8-) -
Inappropriate? That could explain why I still have not been prompted for account information. Oh well. Hopefully Twitter will get its act together. In the meantime I'll continue to run Skype until I can find something that will make Twitter work with Google talk.
