Shut down @KirtsyNews for Brand-Hijacking/Porn!!
http://twitter.com/KirtsyNews is someone who has PRESENTED themselves as @Kirtsy. but they are not. They are sending out XXX tweets left and right, for days now, and claim someone else has hacked the account to do it. In the meantime, because you will not shut @KirtsyNews down, the Kirtsy brand is taking the hit. @KirtsyNews has more followers than the original @Kirtsy account does, because everything about the presentation/bio/avatar/account name indicates they are the company!!!! This is a clear-cut case of brand hijacking and I have been told @Kirtsy has contacted support about this. WHEN will you be shutting down @KirtsyNews and what do you intend to do about the hit on Kirtsy's reputation for leaving them up all this time???
Please turn over the @KirtsyNews account and ALL the followers to the @Kirtsy company. This is a BIG problem and must be addressed today. The Kirtsy people are good people who actively promote Twitter in positive ways. They don't deserve to be ignored and have their brand trashed by some fools.

Inappropriate?Yes please. Trademark infringement.
I’m hoping twitter will kill any account using the "Kirtsy" mark not owned my kirtsy.com
-
Inappropriate? But the links seem to be just linking to the site, so it looks like it is just grabbing an rss feed...
-
But they have amassed nearly 5,000 followers using the Kirtsy mark and name. The Kirtsy owners have no guarantees that it won't be used for purposes other than intended and the Kirtsy owners can't use the twitter feed to address those following. It's clear infringement. -
Inappropriate?I fully agree! Something should be done about this.
-
Inappropriate? This is a really big problem that needs to be dealt with as soon as possible. Any action of this nature should not be allowed to exist on twitter.
I’m disappointed and angry
-
Inappropriate? As Andrew Hyde pointed out above, it looks like the inappropriate content is being posted to the Kirtsy site itself, and since there's a feed from the site to Twitter, the inappropriate content is also being posted on Twitter.
Also, whoever owns the Kirtsy site seems to have acknowledged the issue, based on this tweet: http://twitter.com/KirtsyNews/status/... -
That response isn't from Kirtsy at all! It's from the owner of KirtsyNews who has nothing to do with Kirtsy.com. Confusing, isn't it? -
But you're still confusing the two, which is the crux of this issue. KIrtsyNews is NOT Kirtsy. They did not set up the account and feed stories into Twitter, or set up the bio/link/avatar/background. They did not acknowledge the issue in that statement, the imposter did. Yet anytime someone wants to mess with the Kirtsy site it is going out to over 4,000 people as if it's sent from Kirtsy. -
Oh yes, you're quite right -- it's the owner of the kirtsynews account who acknowledged the issue. But are we sure that they're not the legitimate owner of the kirtsy site?
In any case, if anyone in this thread owns the kirtsy site, you can contact Twitter Support by logging a support ticket at http://twitter.com/help -
I guess the real (brand) snafu is who owns the account twitter.com/KirtsyNews vs twitter.com/Kirsty, in relation to Kirsty.com.
If the owner of twitter.com/KirstyNews is a fan, not an employee and simply set up an RSS feed to the site ... that's one thing.
If the account owner represents his or herself as Kirsty.com employee through tweets, that's another. -
It may be worth noting that the twitter account KirtsyNews was established in January 2008 and Kirtsy in October 2008 -- Glad to see that Kirtsy.com (twitter account: Kirtsy) is joining the conversation -- just not the way they'd expect! -
Steven, the Kirtsy account was created earlier than that. We had to contact Twiter to get control of it and it was "re-created". -
Inappropriate?Twitter helped out initially when @kirtsy was first used as the RSS re-syndicator (which Kirtsy.com now has ownership of) but has not responded to requests about @KirtsyNews. Also, the owner of @KirtsyNews ignores DM's from Kirtsy. We'll get it sorted it, apply appropriate design and technical measures where possible to help with future issues. But in the meantime we'll address this particular user and twitter account. Thanks for the help!
-
Inappropriate?Aside from this GetSatisfaction form, perhaps everyone who wants Twitter to hear their opinions should send request reports at http://twitter.com/help
Also, it seems the shift from "normal" to "dirty" messages occurred around Dec. 4.
I’m curious
-
Actually, you can find posts that go back 117 days - 200 days: http://tinyurl.com/9pteh2 (and they are still there! A story post filter is required) -
Hi Steven, thanks for that search. :) We kill accounts when bad things make the front page. Those, fortunately, did not. It's currently a manual effort to rid ourselves of this. We'll fix that in the future. Right now, by publishing an RSS feed for ALL or the "Up and coming" section of the Kirtsy.com site, we open ourselves up for these sorts of posts to get clicked on and ultimately placed on the home page. We can fix that and will. For now, I login mornings and nights to deal with the issue.
Thanks for your input! -
Inappropriate? If Kirsty really found these links offensive, wouldn't they take down the articles they are linking to? Right now, all the porn links go to the Kirtsy page with the page and porn links still up.
-
I have already killed the accounts associated with posts and removed the posts from the primary feed. The direct links will go away once a process is run -- it hasn't yet but will be shortly. -
James, are you "with" Kirtsy in some way? I hope so!! Not sure from some of your comments here.... can you clarify? -
I help them out because I love them -- Laura's my wife! -
Thanks James - I am glad you're here, because I feel a little funny speaking up "for" them if you know what I mean. But I think Kirtsy has a great fun, brand and they are all good women, and this should be a non-issue. There is a legit company, KirtsyNews isn't it, they made the twitter account appear they are. What more is there to say? Give followers to legitimate brand owner and cancel the account, already!! -
Hey guys. This is Laura Mayes, one of the founders of kirtsy. I just got back from running a quick errand this morning when this all went down (30 minutes in twitter time is like 3 days IRL!) Thanks everyone for helping us clear this up. Thank you Kristi for everything you've done to help people understand that kirtsynews isn't kirtsy ... we really appreciate your effort for the entire kirtsy community while we are working to address the porn->rss->twitter issues. And thank you so much Twitter for suspending the account while we address the problem! -
Inappropriate?Kirtsy themselves posted a tweet and said they did NOT own KirtsyNews and apologized for the porn tweets: "Dear Everyone, We are *SO* sorry for the porn tweets that went out tonight. @kirtsynews is not actually owned by kirtsy. Trying to fix :( 11:18 PM Dec 12th from web"
I also have DM's from two of the women who run Kirtsy talking about trying to get KirtsyNews shut down.
KirtsyNews just posted something else about Amy Winehouse topless. This is quite a little racket they have going on here. But when will they be stopped, at least from tweeting this stuff out?
I might point out also, KirtsyNews is aware of the damage being done to the Kirtsy brand as I type this - they could change their Twitter password, alter the bio, say who they really are, change the account name and stop the feed from coming in. They are obviously NOT fans of Kirtsy or they wouldn't allow this to continue.
I’m downright mad.

Inappropriate? The account in question has been suspended. Thanks.

Thank you! -
Thank you! -
Thanks, Emee. Happy to see we could get resolution on this. -
Hi Emee, I'm curious why the account (kirtsynews) been opened again. -
Inappropriate?Thank you, Twitter, and thank you all for chiming in on this branding issue!! If you don't already follow me, I'm @kriscolvin and would love to connect with you there.
I’m happy for Kirtsy!
-
And thank you Kristi for being such a great brand advocate for the kirtsy community. We appreciate you. -
Inappropriate?Kris, thank you for jumping in here. We appreciate your support as always and are happy to see this is being resolved.
-
Inappropriate?I would certainly like to know why someone set up the SAME exact fake account. At LEAST force the morons to identify they are NOT the brand owner in any way. WHAT rightful purpose do they serve???????
I’m fed up.

Thanks for suspending kirtsynews again. Someone told me it was down and I am very relieved.
