sms updates creating new users eg user1 user12 user123
When I reply on my phone with an update - nothing happens.
I did a search for my username looking to see if I appear in a seach (which is lycaki) and saw that the updates had been happening but going to lycaki1 lycaki12 lycaki123 - so doesn't seem to be working. The updates are going but not appearing on mine.
Anyone know

Inappropriate? It sounds like your phone number is getting linked to different accounts.
1. Can you please try adding your phone to your lycaki account via the Twitter web interface?
Go to http://twitter.com/devices (login required) and enter your phone number.
If your phone is already defined there, please remove it and try adding it.
2. if Twitter thinks that your phone number is already being used by another account, delete the other account
If you're not able to add your phone number to your lycaki Twitter account because Twitter thinks it's already in use by another account, please send "delete me" to Twitter from your phone.
Note -- this will completely delete the Twitter account that is linked to your phone, and should free up your phone number. Don't try to do this if your phone number is already linked to your real account -- because it will delete your real account.
Also, you won't get a confirmation back that the account was deleted, because Twitter won't have your phone number anymore.
3. Log back in to your lycaki account via the web at http://twitter.com/devices and try entering your phone number again
Please make sure to use the format
"+ (country code) (area code) (phone number)"
Try verifying your phone now. 8-)
I’m hoping this works

Inappropriate?Thank you mdy for your help regarding this, it's much appreciated
Following your advice I tried
1. The phone was in the devices section but unvalidated with the send this code (which I had) there, I then deleted it and start again (+44 is used for my number and correct format for the phone)
when I sent the conformation code you can see it gets sent as an update to the user lycaki2. Didn't seem to fix it and I didn't get a confirmation response back.
2. So I deleted this account from the phone like you suggested (fingers crossed it wasn't mine :) all deleted fine and my account still existed.
3. started the process, entered the phone number again. This time I did get a response back from twitter to the conformation code saying please reply with your name (which I replied lycaki - not Russ Clark - is that correct?)
No response back to username. Also the validation for the phone on the devices page doesn't disappear (as before) and if I enter an update to status and send via sms - it picks it up as username lycaki3 http://twitter.com/Lycaki3 if you do a search for lycaki - you'll see my various attempts at deleting and adding the phone before.
I can send help sms to twitter and get reponses.
Any ideas, I'm lost :)
Thank you for any assistance you can give

Inappropriate?Russ, it looks like Twitter can't match the phone number in your Twitter profile with the phone number that sends the confirmation code.
That usually happens when the phone number isn't entered in the format that Twitter expects.
Since Twitter can't match your number to your existing account, it assumes you're a new user, so it asks you for your name and creates a new account for you (that's why you have lycaki3)
Did you by any chance enter your phone number in the format:
+ (country code) (area code) (phone number)
The area code may be slightly off (some people enter extra zeroes in front), or it may be that there was no + sign?
I’m not sure this will work but I'm hoping you'll keep trying

Inappropriate?Hi mdy, again thanks for your help
I'm pretty sure I'm entering it correctly - I've added the +44 and taken the zero away from the mobile code. I'm familiar with dialing it from abroad. I don't think I made any mistakes ...
We don't have area codes for mobiles here in the UK only for example 0771234567 a 077 or 079 the first few digits are usually the different mobile companies. So if I was to enter that example into twitter I would have put +44771234567
Many thanks
Russ
I’m thankful for help :)

Inappropriate? The way you're entering it does sound right, Russ. Thanks for taking the time to explain.
I guess the next step would be to see if we can claim the account that's currently linked to your phone number.
Could you try doing this:
1. Log out of Twitter
2. Go to http://twitter.com/account/complete
3. Enter your phone number there to claim the account that's linked to your phone.
If you're able to claim that account, it might be better to just make that your real account (since your phone is already linked to it). You can always change the user name in Settings.
I suspect you may find yourself linked with this account: http://twitter.com/russclark

Inappropriate?Hi mdy,
That's worked, you're a genius :) I claimed lycaki3 account with the phone.
Renamed it and now all working - phone messages everything ... YEAH!
Thanks for all your help, much appreciated!
Russ
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Ok, so I am having the same problem he is having, or had. I registered my account on the web and then tried to activate the phone. I sent the confirmation code in, but never got a response back. I was reading all the steps that he did, and I have done all of these. I tried to click that link to complete my account and pair it with the phone number, but the link is not working right now. Is Twitter having a problem with their server?
