Some clues as to why you can't tweet since the DDOS attack
I'm not going to post this in answer to every question about this! But I too cannot update from Firefox. I can from Safari. And I can from firefox via the twitterfox plugin.
According to the twitter status page: "Update (4:14p): Site latency has continued to improve, however some web requests continue to fail. This means that some people may be unable to post or follow from the website."
And @martingoode has said to me that "Most DDOS mitigation systems produce false positives so they are probably trashing a portion of real traffic anyway"
So if you're having problems, switch browser or client and see if that fixes it. I'm imagining that eventually this will all sort itself out and you can go back to your preferred method.

Inappropriate?Thank you! I'd tried all the posted fixes and none worked in Safari.

Inappropriate?BLESS YOUR MERRY SOCKS.
a much as i hate safari, PRAISE BE IT.
i hope this all gets sorted out soon.
thank you!
I’m ecstatic &thankful

Inappropriate?I hate IE, and have the latest version of Firefox on both computers here at home. For some reason, if I switch over to the older and slower desktop, it takes it...but on my newer latoptop, I'm having the problems.
I've never heard of Safari - where do I find that? -
Safari is Apple's browser. The DDOS is still ongoing so if you've been having problems, you probably still will be. I'm sure it will all get sorted, but you may have to stick to different browser for a while. You could also try clearing your internet history - cookies, cache, active logins etc etc. But that might be equally annoying! -
Inappropriate?I switched from Firefox to Safari and this worked--thanks so much for the suggestion!
I’m grateful
-
Inappropriate? Thanks for the advice, dude. I haven't done it yet, but assume it will work... and feel a bit foolish for not having thought of it in the first place.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate? All three of us are using exactly the same version of Firefox. One can post, two cannot. I don't use IE because it crashes Trillian. I'm on a satellite connection and don't have the bandwidth to download Safari. I've also tried from the computer at work and it doesn't work there either.
-
have you tried Twitterfox? I can't post updates from Firefox, but can with the twitterfox plugin. -
Who can post and who can't really has no rhyme or reason - I have 2 accounts and can post from one, but not from the other... on the same computer. :S Fortunately, using the IE worked for me. -
Thanks Malcolm, I'll have to see about Twitterfox. This is making me crazy. -
Inappropriate?I have the Firefox problem too and I tried IE 8 and it does the same thing. I will try Chrome now.
-
Inappropriate? This is not an acceptable solution. I will wait for them to fix it before using twitter again.
I’m irritated
-
Inappropriate?Well, I tried Chrome and was able to post twice and same thing, the little wheel spins. I then went to Safari and same thing after two posts. So, I back leveled FIrefox, same thing, I guess I will just have to keep bouncing browsers until it is fixed. One interesting thing when I clicked the little security box at the bottom of Firefox, it said I had attempted to post 1391 times today and that was after two posts and a new browser.
Still waiting for a solution from Twitter. -
Inappropriate? You shouldn't HAVE to keep bouncing browsers--it's terrible for your computer and it's not a solution at all.
This is akin to changing out the entire electrical system in your car until you find one your cheap radio likes. At some point it's time to get a new radio or just live without one until the manufacturer agrees to install a fix.
I’m super-aggravated

Inappropriate? If you haven't yet done so, this is not a good time to bounce browsers, try deleting & re-adding your phone, or indeed make any other drastic adjustments which you can't easily undo.
Any issues which first appeared at approx. 14:00 UTC on Thursday 6th. August 2009 or later are likely to be side effects of the still ongoing! massive DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack on Twitter and related services via the Internet. All Twitter users are inconvenienced in some way.
As a result, many parts of Twitter - and 3rd.-party applications such as http://dabr.co.uk and http://m.tweete.net - are working poorly or not at all. Even updates from the phone are disrupted for many users.
I hope things will be back to normal within a few days - though of course I've no idea if this will be the case. Even Twitter's API developers have no ETA.
Basically, we have to wait for the Internet (not just Twitter!) to be fixed...
To keep up to date with Twitter's attempts to get things back to normal:
• Follow @Twitter (if you can follow people at present)
• Read Twitter's newest posts at http://status.twitter.com and http://blog.twitter.com/
• @dabr is updating with useful tips at http://dabr.co.uk
• Inside information from Twitter's API developers
Meanwhile, some 3rd.-party alternatives (which have worked for me at least partially):
• http://dabr.co.uk is actively devising workarounds and has a list of @dabr mirror sites
• http://tweetgrid.com worked for me even whilst http://twitter.com was officially 'down' on Thursday afternoon.
I’m not enjoying the DDoS, either...

Inappropriate?I have a problem in that my UK Vodafone number appears to be registered already on the Twitter database. I only have one account and it certainly is not registered to my account. I have tried contacting Twitter Support 6 days ago and they show no interest in helping me. All I want is for them to reply to my question of whether they can delete my UK VF number from their database so I can register it on my own account, but they refuse to help :(
I’m angry
