Support direct message opt in
There are times when I try/want to direct message someone but are not able to because they are following me.
Rather than an outright reject the first time, it would be nice if the recipient gets a message asking if they want to accept the message (showing the message) and follow the person allowing direct conversation or just choose to block the person.
This way, I think it is possible to start conversations that otherwise would not happen.

Inappropriate?This is a popular request lately; we're coming up with better ways to manage personal Twitter communication, and we've definitely got this in mind as an option. Thanks for sharing!

Inappropriate?It would be so useful and convenient to be able to tell people "Just twitter me" and have them send a direct message. For example if my site goes down it would be cool to have a way for someone to send a 140 character message to my twitter notification without them having to go through a big setup and registration process to be allowed to follow me before they can send one.
Perhaps a way to allow direct messages from anyone and I get to choose who to block and what not. Then if they use it and end up liking twitter they can finalize their account after.
