Update on SMS delivery problems
We uncovered and fixed a major problem with the SMS service that resulted in a large number of messages being dropped. This problem affected users from all carriers.
There may still be problems that remain. We know there’s additional things that we need to do to make the system more reliable. However, fixing this problem should result in a significant improvement in message deliverability. -
Inappropriate?i have t-mobile and i still cannot send messages to twitter from my phone without getting a text that says "access denied" (i posted about it on a separate post on this board a while ago when i couldn't get any messages posted to my timeline from my phone. i am going to call t-mobile and see if they blocked the 40404 number and have them unblock it. :(
-
I think calling T-mobile is a good idea. I don't think I've heard of Twitter returning "access denied" as an error message -
Inappropriate?i just called t-mobile and i tried re-registering my phone with twitter and i'm STILL getting the same message (the "access denied" message) that i've been getting for a while.
the conclusion is that it HAS to be something on twitter's end because i'm able to send messages to everywhere else and people get them fine, but it's something on twitter's end that is causing all of my messages to NOT be accepted. the lady at t-mobile explained that they cannot do individual blocks on numbers and therefore, twitter's 40404 number isn't blocked. (if it was blocked, then it wouldn't be just twitter, but every number that i text to.) i don't know if this is a known issue with twitter and i wish that they had an alternate number i could text to and forward these texts to my phone. (i even tried texting "HELP" to the twitter number to see if i can get help and guess what? "access denied")
I’m sad

Hello. Could you kindly try Google's shortcode and see if you get a response? If you do, then we'll at least have confirmed that shortcodes are allowed on your account.
Here's how to do it (from the Twitter FAQ):
"Test your phone's ability to message to short codes in general by sending a message to the Google shortcode, 46645. (GOOGL) Send something like "weather, san francisco." If you get a reply, you know your phone is able to receive messages from short codes." -
did that before when i had my original post on it and it worked. (and it still does)
i found out from someone that the problem IS on t-mobile's end. they're cracking down on people who are texting to the 40404 number. and that's not cool.
http://getsatisfaction.com/tmobile/to...
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=...
apparently, the links are from 2007, but i was able to use my phone with twitter just fine until i changed my numbers and had some stuff happen where i was having problems with twitter. :( -
After reading the links you provided, it does seem that "access denied" is a T-mobile error message.
Also found these other links:
- Why do my sms shortcodes get access denied on Tmobile?
- why do I receive an access denied error? -

* Any response when you send ON via sms? yeah. "ACCESS DENIED"
* Tweets sent from sms successfully posted on web? NO
* Do tweets sent by sms show up late on the website? no

* Still receiving tweets via sms now? no because i just use my phone to post TO my timeline
* i check my twitter updates on the web. constantly.

Hi ynyslass. Since you're in the UK, you must be using the +44 Twitter number?
If yes, Twitter will not send you sms messages (and there should be a message stating that in your devices page). Twitter only sends sms to phones in the US, Canada, and India due to cost.
However, Twitter will still allow you to update your account via sms from your phone if your phone is verified.
You can check if your phone is verified by going to http://twitter.com/devices. If it's no longer asking you to send a verification code to the +44 number, then your phone is verified, and it would be great if you can try sending sms to post an update -

Hi myb120. Is it possible that you don't have device updates ON for the people that you're following?
You can check by typing "on username" (ex. "on alphatrends") into the "what are you doing?" box on your home page and see if that makes a difference.
Since you get a reply to ON and can post to Twitter, there's a chance that this is a device setup issue rather than an sms issue. -

Hi shewhoknowstruk. Can you kindly check if your phone number is entered in the format that Twitter expects?
Twitter expects US cellphone numbers to look like this: +12125551122 where
+1 is the US country code
212 is the area code
5551122 is the phone number
If the number isn't entered correctly, you won't be able to send tweets via sms. -

Hi RoseWolf. As far as I know, Twitter doesn't return a "user not accepted" message in response to an sms.
Is it possible that your mobile account is not allowed by your carrier to send messages to shortcodes such as 40404? -

ricky, can you kindly go to http://twitter.com/friends and check if you have device updates set to ON for any of the people you follow? Twitter will only send you the tweets of people for whom device updates have been set to ON.
Then go to http://twitter.com/devices and check if your phone is also set to ON there, and that your sleep settings are correct.
The fact that you receive a response when you send ON suggests that your phone setup is okay. So it's probably just a setting that needs to be changed. -
mdy: I'm having this problem and can't find anyone to help. I did both these things you suggested, but can't find either. On my "friends" page there is no choice available for setting a device "on" or anything - no device. On the Device page, there is no "on" choice, either. However, if I try to register by phone, it tells me the number already exists. Also, when I send "on" it replies that my phone is connected. I am, however, able to receive updates from 1 user only. Any ideas? This is getting very frustrating. -
Hi dwmillerard. Can you try doing this?
Send "ThisIsMyTestTweet" (no spaces) from your phone to 40404. Then check this link in Twitter Search http://search.twitter.com/search?q=Th... to see which account your tweet shows up at.
I suspect that in the process of trying to verify your phone, you ended up creating a new account which is currently linked to your phone. Doing the test tweet above will help you identify the account if it does exist.
If there is another account that's linked to your phone, here's what you can do:
1. LogOUT of Twitter
2. Go to http://twitter.com/account/complete
3. Enter your phone number in the form.
Note: the phone number must be in the format: +12125551122, where
+1 is the US country code
212 is the area code
5551122 is the phone number
You'll be given instructions that will let you take control of the account that has your phone. Once you're in that account, go to http://twitter.com/devices and remove your phone from that other account. Then logout.
Now that you've freed up your own phone, you can log back into your real account and add your phone number at http://twitter.com/devices -
MDY:
Thank you for your note. Unfortunately, whilst it has revealed the problem, it hasn't solved it. I sent the update and discovered that there is, indeed, another account I must have erroneously set-up, with which the phone appears to be associated. I have logged onto that account and gone into Settings/Devices. However, everytime I select "Delete and Start Over" I get an error saying "Twitter is over capacity" or "Something is technically wrong". Should I just delete the account? Will it let me reassign the phone to my real account if I do so without deleting the device from this one first?
Thanks for your help.
dwm -
Deleting the account won't free up your phone as far as I know, because the Delete Account page explicitly asks you to remove your phone before you delete.
I suggest waiting it out then trying later because there appears to be an ongoing replication issue (described here) which may or may not be related to your inability to remove the phone.
In the meantime, it would probably be a good idea to log into the other account then file a support ticket to ask Twitter Support to remove the phone for you. You can log a ticket at http://twitter.com/help -- please remember to specify your username and phone number. -
dwmillerard, I've removed your phone from the second account. Please try adding to your first account now and let me know if you still have issues. -
Success! I have added my phone to my first account, tested it, and will next delete the other account. Thank-you all for your assistance. -

* Support ticket number (if one has been logged): N/A
* Any comments or observations: Lucky for me, I can update via mobile web, but it would still be nice, and easier, to update via SMS -
It started working. Takes about 2-3 hours to post from SMS. -

Inappropriate?iPhone App developer acrossair has a very cool augmented reality application for the iPhone 3GS ready to go live. They are waiting for Apple to approve it for the AppStore. Below you can see a video of the Nearest Tube app running on an iPhone 3GS. Augmented reality apps will be the next big thing for the iPhone. We already reported about Layar that is also hopefully coming to the iPhone soon.Visit http://www.i4u.com/article25919.html for more details.
