T-Mobile is blocking Twitter
Currently a group of us Twitter users have been frustrated with the inability to send SMS messages to twitter from T-Mobile. Many of us contacted T-Mobile last night and we were told, in various different ways, that T-Mobile does not support Twitter and that we should no longer expect to be able to use the twitter service from T-Mobile. Today I received an official response from T-Mobile's Office of the President confirming that they are restricting access to the Twitter service.

We really need to collectively complain to T-Mobile regarding this situation. The only way anything is going to be fixed is if people complain and tell them how important it is to them.

We've been working on this problem and believe it to be a technical issue, not a policy issue. That is, we think there is a problem between T-mobile and the folks who handle our text message aggregation; not a decision by T-mobile to cut off Twitter users.
We hope we can get it resolved really quickly because we know how many folks are impacted by it.

Heads up: the T-Mobile issue has been resolved.
I’m glad it's over

Inappropriate?I have received an email response that is exactly the same as bblboy54's - verbatem, and I have a corporate acct w/ T-mobile. They really do NOT care.
I’m chagrinned

Inappropriate? We've collected as much information as is currently available and posted it in a summarizing article here: http://getsatisfaction.com/tmobile/to...
I’m hoping T-Mobile comes to their senses and provides a quick resolution

Inappropriate?I am glad to hear that the issue is being resolved but I would really like T-Mobile to make a statement on why so many people were directly told by T-Mobile excecutives that they were intentionally blocking Twitter. This wasn't just one customer service rep that said something incorrect but many people have emails from the president's office flat out stating that they were blocking twitter.
-
Inappropriate?I'm hopeful for a quick resolution, but I agree that T-Mobile should apologize for the harsh email, and revise their language to make it sound less threatening.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Additionally, why were so many people directly told something that wasn't true? It's not only the CSRs that were giving the information but the president's office as well.
I have confirmed that I am, again, able to send SMS to 40404 so it looks like the issue is resolved. The cause may be up for debate but T-Mobile needs to make a statement regarding this -- and not cover their asses. -
Inappropriate? It is ilegal under telecpmmunication act to block a competetive or parallel service.
http://www.fcc.gov/telecom.html
It would be like AOL ISP blocking Yahoo Website, which would be ilegal. Like ATT blocking Sprint PCS mobile calls....
Or Google blocking Igor The Troll for complaining too much..:) -

Inappropriate? While it was working through Sunday for me, I now get "Access denied." SMS'd back to me any time I try to SMS 40404 from a T-mobile phone.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I'm a British t-mobile user and its now heading towards a week since I received a single update, though I've managed to send an update today. Any ideas?

I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Ignore my comment, apparently a CSR at t-mobile "helpfully" blocked 40404 from my number when I sent in an inquiry last week asking WTF was going on between t-mobile and Twitter.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Wrong.
The Telecommunications Act is about phone companies blocking other phone companies (and, by extension, phone numbers served by other phone companies). Phone companies are allowed to block short codes because they're not real phone numbers. It's a weird loophole, but it's legal.
It's time to drop the pseudo-legal arguments about neutrality, because they don't apply. Even the guy who started this noise admits he was wrong -- he just wasn't principled enough to admit in any of the forums he spammed.
I’m tired of this nonsense.

Inappropriate? Is anyone still having issues that seem to be T-Mobile specific? I know that Twitter has been having some issues but afaik those are (mostly) resolved. I am not getting more than half of the tweets to my SMS that I should be. I also get the "Service is Unavailable" message a couple times a week when trying to send to 40404.
Is anyone else seeing similar problems?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have T-Mobile and have the same issue. In my case, I can't send updates to 40404, or really send/receive anything to any five digit address, because I have a flex account. Because of the risk of racking up charges with the five digit numbers, they're blocked from my use.
I’m bummed

Inappropriate?I have a Flex account as well, with unlimited messages, and am having the same problem as Jenn. I can utilize some short message codes, but unfortunately the Twitter service is one that doesn't work. I wish I had tried this out when I signed up with T-Mobile a few weeks ago. I probably would have gone with AT&T.
I’m disappointed
-
Inappropriate?you might be able to return that phone and get AT&T still. I know that AT&T has a 30 day grace period when you buy a phone, where you may cancel the contract with no penalty. T-mobile may have the same policy.
I’m hopeful
-
T-Mobile's buyers remorse policy is 14 days, except in California where their California Consumer Bill of Rights allows 30 days. -
Inappropriate?Cristal,
If you do choose to stay with T-Mobile, and have a smartphone, try using TinyTwitter. It's a small app that installs right on your phone. I'm using that to be able to update Twitter and receive updates from others via the display of my friends list.
If you don't have a smartphone, there are small apps for cell phones that have JavaScript on them. I'm just not sure of the names of those programs off the top of my head... -
Inappropriate?Thanks, Jenn and Cameron.
I downloaded TinyTwitter. Nice to see there are options for those of us who can't (or don't want to) utilize SMS.
I checked my order receipt and T-Mobile only gives 20 days for returns. I just missed the deadline, so I'll be sticking it out with them.
-
Inappropriate?Apparently, T-Mobile FlexAccounts STILL have shortcodes disabled. The only recourse is to complain:
https://support.my.t-mobile.com/caseS...
I told T-Mobile that I'm canceling my subscription and going to another provider, even if I have to get a contract now. I'm hugely frustrated with them.

Inappropriate?I have a tmobile acct with family text unlimited and I get my tweets jsut fine
I’m glad I'm not a part of the crowd
-
Inappropriate? If you have a long-term T-Mobile contract plan, that's expected. The only problem now is with FlexAccount plans, for which ALL shortcodes are disabled.

Jessie: On your phone or on the Web interface? -
On my phone. I get a "Access Denied" reply SMS when I try to send messages to twitter. It has been happening for a couple of weeks now. -
Inappropriate?I found a cool site that allows you to update multiple social services/sites like twitter, facebook, myspace, jaiku, pownce, bebo, linkedin, hi5, plaxo, brightkite, etc all with one post. If you have web access on your phone you can go to m.hellotxt.com or you can do it online at their full version website. Oh, there is also a facebook application that I love, since I'm always on facebook!
I’m loving this service, one update, that's all!

Inappropriate?I have -Mobile and use Twitterberry. Worked fine until Twitter's DoS attack. Have had probs ever since.
I’m annoyed
