too many updates from a certain user- WAY too many

Hi, is there a way to tone down how many updates I get from a certain user? Some people live on Twitter & it's just annoying to be innundated by certain users- Don't want to block & be unfriendly, but geeze, enough already. Is there a way to give a few people you are following preference?
