Trying to join... Guess I'm not Human!!
I am trying to create a new account, but when I fill out the info and press the button "I accept. Create my account" the message "Please try to match the 2 words shown above, or try the audio version" comes up by the category "Humanness". However, the Humanness category is blank. There are no scrambled letters or words or anything else there at all. Just blank. There is no audio option, either. I am running it on the newest version of Firefox, but I also tried to do it on the newest version of IE (or at least the next to newest version). Any ideas?

Inappropriate?Twitter uses a third-party service called recaptcha to prevent bots from auto-registering with the service.
I just checked the Twitter Signup page now and it displays the recaptcha box under 'humanness' properly.
Is it possible that recaptcha's API was temporarily available when you were trying it earlier? -
Inappropriate?Nope, it's still not working. I see it on other sites (tested it out on blogger, and a few other sites that typically have those scrambled letters, including this one!) and they all show up there. Just not Twitter. hmmm...
I’m feeling less optimistic.

Inappropriate?Wish I could help get around the recaptcha problem, but I too, am stumped. 8-(
The only other alternative I can think of (assuming you're feeling adventurous and you're in the US, Canada, or India) is for you to register via your phone by sending a 'tweet' directly to Twitter's phone number.
When Twitter sees that your phone number is new, you'll receive sms from Twitter asking you to specify a username. Whatever name you sent back via sms becomes the name of your Twitter account, which Twitter will automatically create for you.
From there, you can use the Account Completion form at http://twitter.com/account/completeto get a password that you can use to access your account via Twitter's website. -
How do I find the number? -

Inappropriate?Oh, and it looks like I'm not the only one having this problem!

Inappropriate?Twitter has a different number depending on the country you're in.
- In the US: 40404
- In Canada: 21212
- In India: 5566511
