Tweepme

I joined Tweepme and canceled my subscription because I was told that Twitter considers their program as spamming. Is that true? Will I get banned from Twitter if I use their system? Through their community of Twitters and program I was able to gain about 400 followers within 8 hours. They did not grab Twitters to follow me that did not agree to their terms of agreement and want this service.
