Tweets that end with '...' do not display those characters
On a couple of occasions I've noticed that Twitter parses out '...' (three dots) if they are entered at the end of a tweet (in other words, an ellipsis entered as three periods). This happened to me on the following status:

Inappropriate?Use this "..." instead of this "..." (cut'n'paste to see the difference). The first is a single character created by the keystroke Alt-0133
-
this only works from a desktop- not on an iphone or ipod touch- -
Twitter still doesn't recognize the '...', but I found out recently that Mac users can insert the ellipsis character (...) by pressing Command-; - it's the equivalent of Alt-0133. It will show the character, although I still think the expected behavior should be to show the ... as people would normally type them. -
It's true: the Alt code doesn't work on my desktop, either.
And unfortunately, I don't have a Mac [yet]... -
Inappropriate?Twitter didn't always behave like that.
Another alternative is to use the so-called HTML entity
& hellip;
- which consumes 8 characters, however.
You need to omit the space after the & sign, which is necessary here because Get Satisfaction "obligingly" converts HTML entities to the characters they represent.

Inappropriate? Both are very helpful (and ingenious) suggestions that technically solve the problem, but I don't think average users will have the know-how to do that. Ultimately, I think it's a bug that needs to be fixed for the general use case.
Thanks for the suggestions, though... I'll remember them for the future! -
I guess I'm just too lazy to submit a Support Request when self help is quicker ;-) -
Inappropriate?I've got the same problem, and it's definitely a bug -- there's no reason why a user should expect a "..." at the end of their tweet to disappear. And for those of us who do use them, typing three periods is a heck of a lot easier than the Alt-code or the HTML entity. Please, Twitter, fix this.

Inappropriate? It's also irksome because it leaves you without any punctuation at the end of your sentence. There really is no reason why Twitter should arbitrarily omit these three characters.
I’m coming to expect bugs from Twitter
-
Inappropriate?confirmed here too, i usually use just two dots to save characters, but was feeling adventurous, haha. a bug i'd say, don't think it used to happen.
notice that the dots come up directly under the tweet box, but not in the timeline.
I’m unsure

Inappropriate?you can try using tweetdeck to send n receive tweets.
the "..." shows and lots of ppl are using it too so they will definitely see the dots -
Inappropriate?I just discovered this issue today! Funny thing is that my Tweets update my Facebook status via an app. I added, and when I checked my profile, the periods showed up there, although not on Twitter!
I'm glad that Alt code was brought up: I'm using that from now on!
I’m excited.
