Twitter Account Suspended
After going through the list/rules of why an account might be suspended I have no reason why my account was suspended. Can anyone help me out? Username is Mrpalooza. Thanks in advance.

Inappropriate?Hi, I *think* it's mostly just us users here. You might have better luck submitting an official support ticket. That's Twitter's new ZenDesk system, which GetSatisfaction is working on integrating with.
I’m hoping this helps
-
I've only submitted one ticket. It sat dormant for a week and then they marked it solved w/out responding or answering my question. -
Kat - you're right - GetSatisfaction is trying to work with Twitter to get some sort of support working between the two. -
Inappropriate?Actually I'm up and working - it took a while, and I haven't heard a thing from Twitter support, but I'm there. I have no idea why I was suspended or why I was reinstated, but at least I'm able to log on and "tweet" again!
I did log in with another username & password to get to Twitter support and to get here, but my original account is now up and running. Not sure I have that much to pass on here except that I think they are way behind or must be.
Thanks to all who helped here.

Inappropriate?I think their system of moderation is to suspend first and ask questions later. Rather than perform a true, intelligent filtering, they suspend on the "suspicion" of misdeed. Kind of heavy-handed, but largely effective... if you want to err on the side of spam-prevention. I personally find this system to be broken and in need of something much better. I'm just not sure what that system would be or how it would work, so I guess I do have some sympathy for the support team, as they have to juggle the enemy and the legits and do their best to tell the difference when the lines are often blurry.
My twitter handle is zergworld, and I'm currently suspended on the charge of "mass spam"... an incorrect but not baseless claim. I replied to 17 individuals who had requested a recommendation for an iphone task management app. I replied simply stating "try touchtodo", the one I settled on after trying all the todo apps in the appstore. I guess support can't get it right all the time. I'm still suspended after 3 emails to support contesting the allegations. Such is life.
By the way, is this forum just a place to vent with other members of the community? I see alot of suspended account holders here! -
Inappropriate? Thanks Joe for your input. I'm still not sure why I was suspended or what in the world set of their alarms, but I'm back up and running, so won't worry till next time. However it would be nice to know why I was even suspected or if i was reported - at least I would know how not to set off their alarms.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I was suspended today and its not a good feeling. I have been with twitter over a year and never had a problem. I really never did a lot with twitter until now. I decide to start working twitter more and now I'm suspended.
At least I'm not in this by myself. We should start a suspended group. so that people know that their not by their self. When I started reading that other people were having the same problem it made me feel a little better.

Hi, i haven't been here in awhile because I thought my problem was fix. Im still up and running but until my followers catch up with my followings I'm on stand still. Does anyone else have this problem.
I have seen a lot of account suspended and feel for all of them.
If your having the same problem I would love to hear about it.
Were in this together. Beth -
I just logged on to Twitter and had Account Suspended.....I have no clue as to why. I did submit a request asking why...Looks like a fairly common problem. -
Inappropriate?Beth - I found that if I created a new account - something completely different with another email, and then went on their support site (you can't get to their support unless you're online and you can't get online if you're suspended - don't get me started on the illogicality of that one!!!), that you can at least get support to look at you.
The word I've seen posted here is that they are woefully behind on their schedule AND if you look like you "might" be a problem, they suspend first, then figure it out later. Your increased activity may have caused their alarms to go off. I was suspended for about 6 weeks, but am finally back on, because I kept pressing them for "why" I had been suspended, that I was suspended and wanted it fixed.
Of course in the meantime, that isn't much help, but at least you can take action and eventually something will be done about it.
I'm afraid that's about the best I can offer - maybe someone else here has a better solution, but this is what worked for me, and some of the other posters here.
Good luck, Claire

Inappropriate?I have a similar problem with no clue on what I did wrong - http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to...
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I just finished preparing a corporate presentation on why we should use twitter for our business and found out much to my shock that my account has been suspended.
I have never spammed anyone and in fact send out an update roughly once a week.
No explanation was given.
Very heavy handed of twitter. I am quite upset.
I had submitted a ticket on a separate issue and it has still not been assigned an operator 3 days later.
Twitter is like a nameless and formless entity that just does what it damn pleases to do and does it without any due diligence. -
I am happy to inform everyone that my account was reinstated in 2 days. Turns out my account was not suspended due to spamming but because of the fact that the URL in my profile was infiltrated for malicious purposes.
I really appreciate twitter getting back to me so quickly. That was a pleasant surprise. -
Yikes - it was infiltrated....that sounds malicious!!! Glad you're up and running! -
Inappropriate?twitter should spend more of it's time fixing platform problems and less time suspending for zero reason, what a waste of web space!
I’m ticked
-
Inappropriate?Ha! You should tell Twitter support this, although with their popularity booming, they probably still can't get to it.l
I'm sure you've seen above, but go start a completely different account and if you can't get on (on your regular account) at least make a support ticket on your new account referring to the old one.
It may take a while - 3 weeks or more, but unless your site is really illegal, immoral, or fattening (actually I don't think fattening applies here), you should be able to get it back activated.
They are just so woefully inept now as they have burgeoned beyond any expectations, I don't this doesn't help your frustration level, but that's sort of the mess they're in right now.
Anyway, good luck - and maybe your comment about your company can help expedite the reinstatement of your account. -
Inappropriate?Wow. I've not yet used twitter, but after reading this, I never will. Facebook update. That's all. Blah twitter.
-
Inappropriate?Well, the problem is that when Twitter works it's absolutely great - NO SPAM - you get to choose your "feeds". I love it, but the darned thing is really tough to either get through to support OR get support for suspended accounts. I have yet to run across anyone who wants to use twitter a lot, who hasn't had their account suspended (unfortunately heavy usage looks like spam).
And let me say - this is pure conjecture on my part. I would like to believe that these people did not set out to create a site/software/etc., that would beg people to join, then cause them nothing but heart/head-ache with suspension of their accounts - even though that looks like what they are doing. But I can't imagine a company doing that.
What is more likely is that they are overwhelmed. And once you get online and your account is working - it's great. I love it. I have a very quirky group of interests that do not overrun into the other, and I get to keep all of them honed, informed and nourished on twitter.
Good luck and stay with the process - it does work, albeit not very well at first.
I’m "it's a life" sort of thing
-
Inappropriate?Of course I agree that twitter has no malicious intent, but that doesn't much help you guys with suspended accounts. I really don't feel the same that "it does work". For twitterers who have invested in building this way of communicating to their constituents, who in turn become reliant on such, then twitter unilaterally stops it, well that is worse than not having the service to begin with. This issue highlights the boldface irresponsibility of twitter. I'll stick with facebook, or just email!
-
Inappropriate? You are right. The truth is that if I ran my companies the way twitter ran their company, I would not have any company/ies! It is immensely frustrating to sign up for a service and then not have it or get booted off for not even breaking one rule.
I think the prob lies in that they boot you off (or suspend you) THEN ask questions or look into the problem, instead of the "American Way" of innocent-until-proven-guilty format!
I think people are willing to give them the benefit of the doubt - for a while. But the day comes when they do have to step up to the bar and do the right thing and straighten out their antiquated, inept, inadequate and infuriating method of weeding out spammers vs very active accounts.
Actually I'm not sure I understand this "spamming" problem, as one of the benefits of this format, you get to choose who you receive tweets from and who you don't. I'm always redoing my list: trying someone for a while, and if they send out a bunch of superfluous tweets, I drop them. So I'm not sure I understand their huge concern over spamming.
But they didn't ask me! -
Inappropriate?I just seen this message
"Account Suspended
This account is currently suspended and is being investigated due to strange activity. If we have suspended your account mistakenly, please let us know. See Suspended Accounts for more information. " Whats the deal. I was not warned. this had better be in error. I'm starting to enjoy using twitter.
SUSPENDED WHY. "STRANGE ACTIVITY" What specifically.
All I did today was remove users there were not following me, add a few more users. add a new blacknerry twitter client, add a new windows twitter client and check out a few more services., post a few news head lines, jokes and links to my website. The same I have been doing for months now.
-
Inappropriate? So glad to hear that you got your account back. Something like that happend to me to and we got our account back.
I’m thankful
-
Inappropriate?three days ago my account was suspended, I am an average twitter user. Whats weird is at the same time mine was suspended @lilithsativa my husbands @reddragon was suspended as well. Its frustrating since we have done nothing wrong and no one at Twitter will answer us!!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I have been suspended for no reason, seemingly, 1 whole day ago. Twitter has not contacted me, and my complain ticket is still unanswered. I hope it gets dealt with, as it's been a bummer for me to lose contact with some meritworthy tweeps.
-
Inappropriate?Yes my account has been suspended, without real reason. defective in a script twitter. any links to help us understand in more non-functional which is a peak. I think not be a danger with my follower 36, and my 300 update. So what is the problem.
-
Inappropriate? My account is suspended and I want to know why: my user name is umbrellalounge
-
Inappropriate?Hello,
For me is the fourth day from when I can`t find an answer why my account is suspended, user doruman. I has a WordPress blog with 4000 Posts and 1800 Autors, with maybe 100 new interesting posts daily. More than three weeks I do the same: nor a manual promotional message sent, only the automatic messages sent by blog or feeds, at each member which followed me I sent back a manual message with a simple "thank you", "have a good day" then I followed him (so I considered that it is polite), without nor one link or something promotional.
I read and re-read the Twitter rules and policy. I sent from "Get Satisfaction" 2 messages to them, from email I think 6 or 7, from where I received two automatic answers from support, one with a sending to a dead link, the second to a forum with closed comments. How things are well with an active account, so as it`s incomprehensible now when a member is in this situation: suspended without a reason, nor an explanation, still nor a solving or at least a decent answer from Twitter support. Really some of Twitter team even read these posts? I don`t think so...
...Frustrated... -
Inappropriate?I am the CEO of a leading travel search engine in India. I am tweeting for over 6 months and my account iXiGOIndia became pretty popular (990+ followers) and also featured in many English dailies / magazines in India.
I unfollowed some people who werent following me recently and the next day I found my account suspended.
This was a week back and I still havent got any update on my support ticket :(
Makes me want to never use Twitter again but I absolutely am addicted to it !
Hope it gets corrected soon.
Aloke
I’m frustrated
-
Yep! I did the same & now I'm suspended..... -
I think I followed 350 of my followers and unfollowed some spammers that sends random links and feels like their MLM. I'm a lecturer for Social Media, and getting suspended is not funny! -
Inappropriate?My account was also suspended.
I want Twitter to unsuspend my account because I can't live without it.
My Twitter account is @TBird9999.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? What`s happend here?! It`s a joke, Twitter support laughing at their suspended members?! At least to know the reason for suspension... It`s unbelievable...
Excerpt from the last email received from Twitter support and my "x" (I forgot the number)
attempt of clarification and asking:
"Hi doruman,
Based on your request, we think one of these things might help you:
If you want to delete your account, log in and click the "delete my account" link in your settings page. More information about how to do that is here:
http://help.twitter.com/forums/23786/...
If you want to delete a single update from your profile, hover over the update and you'll see a trash can at the right, near the favorites star; click the trash can to delete the update. (Unfortunately we have no bulk deletion tools, so you'll have to remove them one at a time.) More information about that is here:
http://help.twitter.com/forums/23786/...
If you think your updates have disappeared without warning, or have been deleted, this is most likely due to database problems Twitter has experienced in the last few weeks:
http://help.twitter.com/forums/31935/...
---------------------------------
If you're trying to use a user name or email address that's already in use, or attached to a deleted or suspended account:
http://help.twitter.com/forums/10713/...
If you're seeing "this number/email address/user name is already in use" it may be attached to a deleted account, or you may have accidentally created a duplicate or extra account with your phone, you can complete mobile sign up and delete it:
http://help.twitter.com/forums/23786/...
----------------------
If you deleted your account recently, you should be able to restore it again by entering your user name or email address here:
http://twitter.com/account/restore
Email address and user name are attached to deleted accounts for up to 6 months. If you need to use an email address or user name that is attached to a deleted account, you'll have to restore it and change the email address on the old account, or use a new email address.
If you deleted your account before 12/01/08, you cannot restore your old account, and should sign up for a new one.

If you're having a problem doing any of the things mentioned above, please check Known Issues for topics about current known bugs and/or problems, and add your info if you're affected:

to Twitter
Hello,
You are joke or laughing at your members?
I has my account suspended and only I asked why? And how and when I could see my account active again...
What kind of support is this? Almost a week and all the 3 answers of yours was anything else, only one decent answer to my problem was not.
How could I see my account active again? This is my only one question, already it was too much time lost, at least for me...
Have a nice weekend,
Doru B.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I ask too much???!!!
Unbelievable... -
Inappropriate? The dead link that Twitter sends us to in the suspension notice would get us suspended, yet they haven't addressed that. The need to be active to address why we've been made inactive...whomever figures that out is a Zen master (is that why it is called the Zendesk?).
How can I truly recommend this to my marketing and social media clients when the service is so unreliable? -
I know - this is totally unreasonable. I opened a second account and through that account was able to get onto their support section. I'm not sure it helped, but I was able at least to communicate with them through this second account. Eventually my account was reinstated, and I was never told what i did to get me suspended and what I did to get me un-suspended.
Sooner or later they are going to have to deal with this, and it's hard to keep sane when this is such an excellent idea and has become so popular so fast. And as hard as it is to believe, they did not create a service that people would want to sign up for just so they could suspend it to make people feel frustrated - although it may seem that way - they really are swamped and just are dealing with this the best they can. It's hard to stay un-frustrated and un-angry at them, but getting mad doesn't really solve the problem, and hopefully that's what people here want - to solve the problem and get reinstated. -
Inappropriate?I don't do a lot of twittering, but 3 hours ago I was las notified about my last follower, and now, when I log in, I find I am suspended. This goes for Twitter:
-
Inappropriate?I got suspended, submitted a request and got this reply after 2 days.
My account was suspended for no reason and it is still suspended however they closed the existing request.
I am a social media lecturer and consultant, and randomly suspending accounts will only lead to bad feedbacks. They should understand this, and I hope the problems will get resolved soon.

I received the same "endless loop" response. Go to website, submit claim. We will then send you an email, telling you to go to website, submit claim...non-existent customer service. -
Inappropriate? You guys need to stop the complaining and start actively converting users to companies that have reasonable suspension policies. Twitter doesn't like you. They don't care. They don't want you using their services. They suspending you because they want you to go away. So, go away and bring some people with you.
According to Neilson, the success (stickiness) rate of Twitter accounts is abysmal.
http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/200...
I'm putting my efforts into building my friendfeed subscriptions independent of Twitter, and am seriously considering canceling my Twitter account. My Twitter account is not canceled or suspended today. But, that's today. Who knows what Twitter's management may decide to do in the morning, over their morning latte' or after some bizarre upgrade nobody wants. -
Inappropriate? What's the alternate to using twitter?
-
Inappropriate?Alternates to Twitter:
http://indenti.ca does basically the same thing.
http://status.net/ will launch soon and it does the same thing.
If microblogging has your attention, you'll enjoy reading about open micriblogging which would resolve most of these problems" http://openmicroblogging.org/
I'm using http://friendfeed.com a lot, and it's basically a great place to funnel all your social media so one person can follow everything in one place. I love it. Follow me at http://friendfeed.com/jasonn and join the newb group for help figuring it out:
http://friendfeed.com/newb
friendfeed is MUCH nicer than Twitter, both as a service and its smooth functional nature and the company's more reliable and thoughtful TOS. But, alas Twitter isn't popular because it's a good service or functional. It's popular because the press is all over it.
"Follow me, follow me!" is all I heard this weekend watching a little bit of CNN. It's silly. But, it's why Twitter's blowing up.
I’m happy I'm free and not married to stupid technology.
-
Inappropriate?I was suspended yesterday also. Not sure why. I did set up a new account in my name. My original account is my business name. Maybe because I used the same password for both accounts? I sent in a support ticket. Have not heard anything yet. I also unfollowed a bunch of people? Help me @bizcallingclub
-
Inappropriate? Most of you guys that got suspended seem to be selling something w/ your Twitter accounts. I'm guessing you're also aggressively following people.
That's clearly a reason to suspend an account, and they're not going to respond to you. They seldom respond. -
Inappropriate? If you search around the internet you will a slew of folks who have been wrongfully suspended by twitter. I think its time to acknowledge a flaw in their system! And how about that support, or should I say lack there off! Maybe someone should contact Rick Sanchez of CNN (he seems to have some pull) and see if he can't get to the bottom of this! Reinstate my account! This is ridiculous!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? My account has been suspended. I honestly do not know why. To the best of my knowledge I have not broken any rules. If I have broken any ploicy, please inform me. http://getsatisfaction.com/twitter/to...
-
Inappropriate?I never did hear back from Twitter, but this morning 22hrs after suspension, my account was back up - no explanation given. I'm just happy.
I’m relieved!
-
Inappropriate? My account just suspended last weekend.... I honestly have no idea why. I am a real person and not even pushing MLM or clickads or be-a-magpie or anything. Twitter support, if you are here, could you please take a look at my account? I think I got lumped in with the best video worm deletions.
@mattheston
Thank you twitter support ! I hope you are out there !
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Take heart. Mine just popped back up after 20+ hrs down. Never did hear from Twitter... I'll put a shout out on Twitter with your twitter name. Jack Dorsey (Chm of Twitter) is on my friends list... *fingers crossed*
-
Inappropriate?Hey all, pass along the msg from Twitter Status page on May 30th:
"Accounts affected by the “best video” exploit have been suspended for cleanup and will be restored shortly. Don’t worry, they’ll be back!
Update: All accounts should be back up and running within the next hour. Thanks for your patience — everyone should be squeaky clean! No personal information was compromised as a result of this attack."
That's a copy/paste of the msg. Hope this makes you all feel better. My acct is back up, even tho I am having to re-follow some folks that got bumped off my friends list... Peace (@FreeBeing)
I’m feeling better!

Inappropriate? My account was suspended last night. I don't know why. This is really frustrating. Luckily, I am still logged in, so I was able to submit a ticket. But damn, it may be six weeks before I'm able to Tweet again? D: This depresses me.
I’m RAGE

Inappropriate?I'm inBonobo on twitter. It would be interesting to hear the story of those whose account was suspended. What caused it? How long 'til reinstated? Here's what happened to me: http://bit.ly/Mr4MS
I’m pissed
-
Inappropriate?I have no idea why my account was suspended two weeks ago. I submitted a ticket via email but no reply, no response. They should at least have a warning system that tells you why and what to NOT DO. Then, if you ignore that, suspend the account. That is reasonable. Another website with bad customer service. It is getting to be a bigger problem. I just want my account back.
I’m Frustrated beyond belief!!
-
Inappropriate?Twitter...please reactivate my account. I am a dedicated math instructor who uses Twitter for educational purposes.

Inappropriate?I'm SUSPENDED, SPAM it's the reason they ANNOUNCE ME on the page, i wrote 3 times (3 diferents tickets) and NOTHING, no answer, it's benn 5 days and NOTHING, it's really really frustrating
TICKET: 483393 (August 7)
It's easy to open a NEW ACCUNT but is not THE IDEA, we proceed with the help desk to follow right procedures of claim but NOTHING, VERY FRUSTRATING
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? My account was suspended! Can you tell me why and unsuspended it, please?

this solves the problem
-
Inappropriate?how do you get a real solution to this problem? I've been suspended for "spam" that I did not send! the logical thing would be to warn the user first and tell them clearly what they can do to AVOID suspension. the tickets have been closed each time w/o explanation and no advise on how to resolve this. thanks!
I’m frustrated
-
Somes weeks later, what can i do???? -
Inappropriate?Twitter doesn't want your business. Please go somewhere else.
You aren't Oprah, Kutcher or some other important personality that Twitter was built to serve and attract.
Either start a new account and follow the people Twitter suggests you follow or go away. Either way, Twitter doesn't care about your complaints. -
Inappropriate?@remotestyling suspended yesterday and despite fact i've sent in tickets, tweeted the CEO, read the rules, got no love . Launching a massive twitter campaign Monday for my company and without twitter this makes it difficult. More frustrating is the fact that despite logging a ticket, it says no open tickets at the support site. does anyone know how long it takes them to review accounts? has anyone had success and gotten all the permissions and followers back? we had built our list nicely and I don't want to start from scratch again. HELP
-
Inappropriate?I do sympathize and that was the reason I used twitter too. was a significant part of our communication. However, given some of the hideous responses I got from my post, I'm not sure you'll find much sympathy here. maybe they actually work for twitter, who knows. good luck and let me know if you resolve anything!
-
Inappropriate?Jamie, seriously I'm very agitated at Twitter's lack of interest in solving customer complaint issues.
It's cruel to offer people who when there is none. They have to make their complaints to Twitter and move on. Twitter may get around to solving the problem, but likely won't. And, if your complaint centers around a "We're about to begin our Twitter marketing campaign," you're the problem not the user they want. They don't want your marketing campaign. They don't want you. They want a flashy cool celeb and their tween fan base (regardless of the physical age of the user :).
So, sorry guys. Twitter doesn't care, and they definitely don't want to hear it. When I've asked Twitter why they ignored my retort to their untrue "solved" status on tickets they just delete or close the tickets - that's their attitude.
