I get this problem on my laptop (Vista), but not on the desktop (XP). Not sure, but I think I have all the same Firefox add-ons on both 'puters. I don't, however, get this prompt on any page but the Twitter home page. I also don't use any third-party Twitter-specific apps.
Don't know if this is of any significance, but I always have to click 'cancel' or 'x' twice to get rid of it. And it doesn't happen if I'm on another tab when Twitter loads, for whatever that's worth.
...
Checked to see which FF add-ons I might have on here that weren't on the desktop: did a bit of trial and error disabling of add-ons, ended up disabling the Veoh Browser Plug-in 1.3 add-on (which I didn't need anyway), and lo and behold, problem solved! So looks like it's definitely an add-on problem, at least in some cases, anyway.

Inappropriate? There was a post somewhere about this issue, I think they are having a psychotic problem with the server,) Try googling, FF auth twitter
I’m disgusted
-
Inappropriate?Just a note to say that I've tagged other threads that talk about this issue with "api login required at home page" to make them easier to find.
-
Inappropriate? We're looking into this issue. If anyone else is having this problem, please include:
-user name
-browser(s)
-operating system
If this happens on multiple browsers, please include that as well.
Thanks!

Hi pw8577. Have you noticed if this happens when you visit a site or blog that has a Twitter badge (not your own) displayed?
Or does it happen with every website (say, when your browser only has one tab open at http://google.com as an example)? -
Also, Fwiw, there's a reply below in this thread (click here to see), where someone who uses Vista and Firefox says this problem stopped for them when they removed the Veoh Browser Plug-in 1.3 add-on from their browser. -

Inappropriate?Hi, I just got the same thing on my homepage where I included my twitter feed. Of course I don't want people visiting my hp to have to log in to the Twitter API before they can see my updates.
But my updates are protected (as to not show up in the main feed page).
I'd like to include the feed in my homepage nevertheless (do I have to provide the password in the source?)
thanks...

Inappropriate?I think I might have stumbled upon something. I think that this bug is only associated with the new version of Firefox. I uninstalled the 3 version, installed version 2.0.0.16 and no problems. My co-worker has twitter, uses it all the time, and does NOT have that annoying pop up....BUT she uses 2.0.0.16 . I will post back later..let you know my progress...and CONSIDER changing my icon.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate? Those of you using Firefox and experiencing this issue: are you perchance using a Twitter client plug-in the likes of Twitterfox (not to single it out in particular)? If so, is that plug-in configured and working for you? What happens if you disable or uninstall it?
(I ran into and fixed something similar a while back on Stikkit.com.)
Rael -
Inappropriate? So, uninstalling the latest version of Firefox, and then downloading an older version (see previous threads of mine for more info on specifics) DID solve the problem. Why? IDK, but it went away...thank God!!!!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hello. Someone in another thread has reported experiencing this API login pop-up problem even when he's *not* on Twitter's website.
The fact that he gets this error even when he's not at twitter.com seems to support Rael's theory above -- that it might be a third-party Twitter app. Maybe a browser add-in or extension that automatically tries to login to Twitter whenever the browser is opened...? Or perhaps a widget that's installed...?
That might also explain why it's the "Twitter API" that's asking for the login -- since all the third-party apps go through the Twitter API...?
I’m uncertain
-
Inappropriate?I just got a similar message -- slightly different wording. I am not logged into Twitter, haven't been for 18 hrs, cold started this morning. Firefox 2.0.0.16. I don't have twitfox or any other twitter-inspired/related third-party APIs or add-ons or the like. Adblock, delicious, filterset g, orbit, tab mix plus, and the shuffling corpses in the apartment next to me are tragically blasting out some goddamned Enya album out right now in a misguided attempt to seem remotely human.

Thanks. I was getting so frustrated and I don't use veoh app anyways. You won the internet. Congrats. -
don't have that plug-in -
As that's solved the problem for me but not others, it may be that Twitter is clashing with more than one specific add-on. It might be worth disabling any add-ons you do have one by one - which is what I did - and see if any of them is causing the problem. It might be something altogether different in your case, but I can't see the harm in trying. -
thank you! -

Hi Crystal, not sure if this is the same problem- but i have the Twitter HTML badge on my website and i want it to show all @replies directed to me, not my feed-but everytime someone comes to the site they get the pop-up box. Is there a way to include all @replies to me as part of my html badge without having people needing to login? Thanks -

i was just trying to access my page on twitter. been happening a few days now and it's annoying

Inappropriate? You might also want to make sure that you haven't put your posts on private.
A few people who visited my blog mentioned that when they visited, a box for the Twitter API came up and asked for login info. This only happened AFTER I placed my Tweets on private. Once I removed them from private, no more log in box. -

Not for me! -
I'm still having the problem. I've temporarily disabled the widget for now. -
Inappropriate? It's happening on Safari, FF, and Opera for me (all on Mac OS X Leopard) — tried running on a clean profile of FF and it still happened, so it's not related to any add-ons or third-party scripts.
I can tolerate it, just thought I'd give you the heads up.
Oh, and my username is vasta and the pop-up appears on any page that makes a call to the Twitter API. That includes personal blogs, WIRED, the Twitter site itself, Momentile, Basecamp, and a whole bunch of other web services.
I’m indifferent
-
Inappropriate? Not working for me on Win XP or Mac and all browsers (from Chrome to Safari to IE).
Also, I can't reset my dang password and had to make a new account. Suckage.
I’m pissy
-
Inappropriate?Any chance this could be a scam to capture username and password info? I saw something earlier about rogue messages being sent in Twitter from other people's accounts... Not sure if that's technically possible.

Same problem -only worse! now twitter have decided to CONTINUOUSLY!!!! lock me out. I have tried changing my PW even made a whole new email account to assign it to incase the email acct had been hacked (Old email acct now disabled too) - nope!
Kind of wondering if any Social network is worth this much grief. there's always facebook and good old email :)
Luckily twitter is still a free service -if we were expected to pay for this they'd have very few customers by this point LOL.
I’m frustrated - VERY!
-
Inappropriate?same problem here - but i can view my tweets using igoogle and the be twittered gadget for the time being.
Also have the same issues with Facebook - totally locked out with same message.
Its definitely a Vista issue
OS: Vista
Browser: Firefox 3.0.5 -
Inappropriate?i have this problem even when i am not on twitter!?!?!?!? how can i fix this!?!?!?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? This issue is not exclusive to Firefox and/or Windows Vista as many are claiming.
I use Safari 4 on a Mac w/ OS X (Version 10.4.11) and had been constantly getting the pop up as well. I temporarily fixed the issue by going into Safari > Preferences > RSS > "Check for updates" and chose "Never".
This stopped the pop up for me.
----
Yes, sucks I can no longer view RSS feeds via Safari. But a quick download of a third party RSS Reader didn't hurt either.
Good luck to those on Safari having this issue.
I’m amused

yes i found that if you turn off your rss feeds from twitter the pop-ups stop -
Inappropriate?Had the same problem in TypePad widget and Home page of website. I resolved by removing the link on my Twitter profile and removing all references to Twitter on Home Page and in Blog.
Had problem in current versions of both IE and Mozilla. Running on XP machine and on Vista. It is Twitter.com-based. They need to fix it.
It disappeared when I took the "Follow Me" off my home page. It's their problem...but no one to talk to. Too bad!
