Twitter should let protected users send @replies to non-following users.
I currently have a protected twitter account because I don't want strangers being able to view my tweets. However, I would like to be able to send @replies to people who are not following me. Is this possible?

Inappropriate?i agree! i think this is absolutely ridiculous. the point of protecting is from erroneous/crazy people looking at your timeline. it shouldn't prohibit you from talking w/others. i just found this out & am considering deleting my account b/c there are a few people who i know won't follow me back b/c we don't know each other, they are journalists. BUT if i can't communicate w/ them they will NEVER get to know me...FRUSTRATING!!!!

Inappropriate?I agree, Jeff! I finally hunted down the answer to this one, and I'm not happy about it. The trade-off for being able to reply to someone who is not following you is to have all your tweets public. That's not a good trade-off.
I’m frustrated!

Inappropriate? If you want to be part of the Public Timeline be part of the Public, otherwise live in your own walled-garden. it's that simple, either be private and alone, or public and with everyone else.
I’m glad

Inappropriate?Would love to see this come in as an option. There is always people you don't want stalking you but at the same time there is always plenty of corporate twitter accounts that just aren't ever going to request to follow you... like entering compitions or sending feedback.
Plan B is to allow users to manually add approvals for other accounts rather than them having to request.
