Twitter Tracker is not working
The Tracker is hardly sending me any updates whatsoever. I've tried tracking pretty common words like "break", and it sent me one update over a span of about 3 hours. I've been tracking the word "the" now for about an hour and have received no updates, including any test twitters from me. Is it not working or am I doing something wrong?
(08:45:21 AM) Me: track the
(08:45:23 AM) twitter@twitter.com: You'll now receive updates matching 'the'. To stop, send 'untrack the'.
That was the last I've heard from the Twitter bot.

Update on a bug fix: we will now send you a message letting you know if you can't track a word.

You won't receive updates via track to your own Twitters.

You need to have either your phone or IM enabled for Track to work. We won't send track messages if it's only enabled for direct messages.

Hi there,
there's a known bug that we *say* you can track words like "the", "and", and other common words, but we don't actually let you track those words ;-)
We do this because tracking common words would match on every other Twitter, and doesn't fulfill the goal of Track, which is to give you more information about the topics that you care about.
We're working on a fix so that we reply with an accurate list of words that you're tracking, and a web interface to help you manage your tracked words. This feature is definitely in beta, and your feedback is very important to us!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Just by the way, I've now had two tweet updates sent throughout the day for various words I'm tracking, but still no tweets with the word "the", nor do any of my own tweets with words that I'm tracking ever get sent to me as an update.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I am having the same problem. I am tracking the word sex and nothing is popping up. How can nobody be having sex!?
-
Inappropriate?this is still not working for me. I have tried to track several words and then I update with the words in them and nothing happens. I have just decided that I'm going to probably just give up on this Twitter thing. I thought it could be cool but I've spent 3 days trying to make this work for me.
-
Inappropriate?Yeah, still not working here either. What's strange is that it seems to be working fine for most people. And what's also strange is very rarely I actually DO get an update for one of the tracks, but only maybe 2 or 3 times a day.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Intermittent Page not found error on www.twitter.com
'Message not delivered' error when sending texts
My RSS feed for my web site not working
Whats happening?
I’m sad & Frustrated

Inappropriate? Can I track the word sex? LOL sorry I'm dirty I know but I'm trying to have fun.
-
Inappropriate?My IM is enabled.
That makes sense with blocking "the" and "and" and stuff.
But, also, as I said, it doesn't seem to be working for other words. For example, I've been tracking "Silent Hunter" for a few days now and have twittered things like "had a blast playing Silent Hunter". The track doesn't update me.
I’m undecided
-
Inappropriate?Ok, thank you Blaine for straightening this out. I could not figure out why I never got the stuff I track on my phone. But then I was only set up for DMs. This does seem like a logic bug to me, cuz to fix it, I had to turn on updates, and turn it off for every last person that I follow cuz I don't want to get anything but tracks and DMs on my phone.
But I'm glad I got it figured out thanks to you on this thread.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I've been trying to track my @replies, so I sent track @wiseox via SMS to twitter. Also tracked "wiseox". But no luck. I can track other words and get SMS messages in return but nothing to do with my username. Any ideas? Does tracking @replies not work in UK? Very confusing!

Inappropriate?Tracking wasn't working on my phone (and I wasn't trying to track common words or my own tweets) but after deleting my phone in the Twitter device settings and setting it up again it's all go!
-
Inappropriate?I am having this same problem. This is even when I am tracking words like Nashville.

Inappropriate? They turned off this feature a long time ago. It sucks, I know. This was the best feature they had. They might add it back in the future, but don't hold your breath, it has taken this long and still nothing.
