Unable to add GMail contacts - requires a POST too.

I've successfully imported a gmail address book containing 31 thousand entries. It would be useful to get some address books of people who are having this problem; if some of you could email CSV and VCF format versions of your address books to chet@twitter.com, I'd appreciate it, and it would help to debug this problem.

Still getting this message:

There was a problem importing your contacts. Please try again later.

Tried everything - full email, email username only, etc. This is absolutely unacceptable response from Twitter, it seems from what I'm reading this has been an issue for at least 2 MONTHS. There is absolutely no excuse for that -- especially for what many would consider a pretty key function, and one pretty center in user adoption. I can't imagine this being a very difficult problem to fix - hell, every other $50 canned and packaged, out of the box social networking site script has this feature.

Completely unacceptable -- almost unbelievable, that Twitter would allow a problem like this to continue on for so long after gaining such great traction in the social networking world. Keep it up like this and believe me, you won't last. Twitter couldn't be very hard to duplicate and put decent coders and project managers behind who will actually get things done.

OMG! I just tried it in the newish barebones browser, K-Meleon. It's available at http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net if you want to try it. I'm so excited to have the 3 additional people to follow. LOL

Not fixed as at 17 October 2008!!

New to Twitter. Tried importing contacts from a standard gmail.com account. Got the following mesage: "There was a problem importing your contacts. Please try again later. " Tried several times over two days - same result each time.

After reading all of the above comments, I can't believe this problem hasn't been fixed. Without this, Twitter is virtually useless to me.

How can we still be having this issue 6 months later? It's unbelievable. The error message might have changed, but it's still the same end result - I'm now getting "There was no one in your Gmail address book" even though that's blatantly incorrect.

Has anyone ever solved this issue? I'm on Mac OSX, Firefox - cannot import Gmail contacts....Thanks
