unable to register jabber id for im notifications
enter jabber id on web form, get 6 character verification code
add twitter@twitter.com, bot asks for auth and I allow
send verification code - no response, zip, nada
but it will respond to help, follow and whois
I've done this on average about 4 times for the last 3 days, always the same result

Inappropriate?finally figured out the problem but still very frustrated that I've had *zero* response.
to record for anyone who runs into this themselves, here is what I was doing wrong:
while my client was showing the "twitter wants to add you" dialog I never checked that the account I was sending the code *from* was the same account I was telling twitter about
Yep - I run multiple jabber id's and that was the issue - account A was known by twitter but I was sending from account B *EVEN THO I TOLD ADIUM* what account to use.
So chalk this one up to user error
