Inappropriate?Hello. Are you still having this problem now? Twitter was temporarily offline earlier so IM wasn't very reliable. It's back up now so if the downtime was the cause of your problem, perhaps it will work now...?
-
I added twitter@twitter.com to my Gtalk as a IM buddy. But it states that Twitter is offline. And I copied the "code" in to the chat box. Got no updates...
What am I missing here??? -
Inappropriate?I believe I have the same problem, but maybe I'm doing it wrong. I write my username (do I have to write username@gmail.com) and then i get a thing that says:
Click to verify your account:
Didn’t work? Add to your GTalk buddy list and send it the following text: -------
Click to verify your account>what am I suposed to click? and when I put the code it transforms into code@gmail.com<thats suposed to be so?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?@Joaquin - it's asking you to click the twitter@twitter.com link next to "Click to verify". Not obvious - I didn't notice it the first few times I looked - I guess I'm prone to ignoring links that look like email addresses.
Clicking that should open up a new chat in your client, with the code added. Sending this should do the magic.
For me that doesn't happen. I get back a 404 error:
Message delivery to twitter@twitter.com failed: (Code 404)
I use adium (osx pidgin client) to access my gtalk which I guess could be the problem?
I’m frustrated

I tried that as well before I took the alternative route. Prompt "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (xmpp) isn't associated with any programme." :(
What in the world does it mean? -
Oh yes and I tried IE browser as well and got a "page cannot be displayed" error.... *miserable* -
@joolz - the link twitter asks you to click is a special xmpp: one. Similar to some links that open new email messages when you click them, this is meant to open your chosen xmpp program (xmpp used to be called Jabber - it's the open format for instant messaging that gtalk uses). My Firefox seems to be set up to handle xmpp links (it opens Gaim for me), but yours doesn't yet. I can't remember how I set this up - I'm guessing some chat programs may set this association up for you, or you may have to explicitly tell Firefox to open gtalk, pidgin or gaim for example when you click xmpp links. -
Hey noii, thanks alot for explaining. But am afraid I ain't tech savvy enough to know how to go about it as well. :p I figured I will have to wait for Twitter IM to be restored before I can do anything about it. Came across some forums discussing about it but can't quite figure out what's all the talk about. *sadz* -
Inappropriate?Hi. Unfortunately, Twitter IM has been down since May 23, so any attempts to verify your IM right now will fail.
There's no announced estimate as to when it will be back online, but we've been asked to follow this related thread and/or check the Twitter status blog for updates.

Oh sure thing, thanks for pointing that out. Guess I'll stop sending the codes to poor little old twitter for now to respond to me. ;p Really hope it'll be up soon!
