Using email addy from deleted twitter account
How can I use an email address that I used on an old, now deleted, Twitter account? When I try to use it, I'm told that email address is already in use. When I try to reset the password for that address, I'm told the address can't be found.

Inappropriate? This is a long shot, but was the original address you used to sign up a gmail address by any chance? If so, I may have a workaround for you.
I’m Unsure

Inappropriate?Awesome! Then here is the workaround: Use the gmail dot trick to psych Twitter out.
So if your address were smithereensblog at gmail, set up a Twitter account using smithereens.blog or smith.ereensblog or smith.eree.nsblog at gmail.
It doesn't matter how many dots or where they go, mail to those addresses will all get forwarded to your main address. I've tried it and Twitter recognizes each iteration as a different email.
I explained the trick in greater detail on my blog a couple weeks ago. The post is here: http://smithereensblog.blogspot.com/2...
Let me know how you make out :)

Inappropriate?I have the same issue, however, I never reset my password. I never opened another account with that password. I did look into my settings and an email, not mine, appears. I try to change it and it says that my user name is already being used and my email is already being used. Odd.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Yeah! That worked! Thanks so much! I knew about the gmail dot, but never thought of how useful that could be in these situations. Thanks SO much!

Inappropriate?@talibanbarbie Now that one I can't help you with. Seems like a real Twitter-bug. And I'm not talking about the jive dance.
@Camerado: I'm really glad I could help! The dot trick is definitely useful. You could also use the plus trick for something like this (add a plus sign and whatever word you want a la smithereensblog+twitter at gmail to change your email's appearance but use the sam inbox) but some services won't accept them. And finally the googlemail trick is another option (with every @gmail account, you also get the identical @googlemail.com account.)
By the way, if anyone else has this issue but does -not- have a gmail account, another workaround would be to sign up for a gmail account and then just set all your mail from that account to forward to your main email. Then use the gmail account for your new Twitter account only and you're all set.
But seriously, Twitter, fix this!

I’m Excited that it worked!

Inappropriate? They say when you delete the account "please change the e-mail address to something you don't use, like username@twitter.com!", so basically when deleting the account you ignored this?

Inappropriate?Hey, Thomas! As the thread shows, my problem was happily resolved, but thanks for taking time to be a jerk! The world has such a shortage of jerks, you know, so thanks for doing your part to make it a little bleaker for everyone. You're part of the solution, man.
-
Yeah man, when you go to the doctor and he tells you to stop smoking you just call him a jerk instead of listening to his advice, I'm sure. -
Inappropriate? This is such a mess---I thought i got back on with new user id but when i try to sign on it tells me the info is incorrect. When I tried to use the original sign on info it said that my acct was being deleted--I don't know where to go from here as I do not want a new email addr

You should be able to go to http://twitter.com/help and contact them asking for your account to be undeleted, they can do it for SOME accounts -
Inappropriate?sorry-new to this and not replying to camerado-
