I"ve tried setting up my phone: country code, phone number, no 0's etc but I don't get a Verification code sent to me? So how do I get my phone connected?

Inappropriate?Once you've entered your phone number at http://twitter.com/devices , that page should ask you to send the verification code (something like wtpmjg) by SMS text to Twitter (+447624801423 for all users outside the USA and India).

You may have to refresh the page to see it.
Since you're in Australia, Twitter will never send any SMS text to your phone.
