Device Basics: turning Twitter off and on
* ON: turns ALL device notifications on. (device = your phone or IM)
* OFF: turns ALL device notifications off.
* STOP, QUIT: stops all messages to your device immediately
* ON username: turns on notifications for a specific person on your device. For example, ON alissa.
* OFF username: turns off notifications for a specific person on your device. For example, OFF blaine.
* FOLLOW username: this command allows you to start receiving notifications for a specific person on your device. Example: follow jeremy
* LEAVE username: this command allows you to stop receiving notifications for a specific person on your device. Example: leave benfu
Other Fun Commands: there's more to Twitter than OFF and ON!
* @username + message
directs a twitter at another person, and causes your twitter to save in their "replies" tab.
Example: @meangrape I love that song too!
* D username + message
sends a person a private message that goes to their device, and saves in their web archive.
Example: d krissy want to pick a Jamba Juice for me while you're there?
* WHOIS username
retrieves the profile information for any public user on Twitter.
Example: whois jack
* GET username
retrieves the latest Twitter update posted by the person.
Example: get goldman
* NUDGE username
reminds a friend to update by asking what they're doing on your behalf.
Example: nudge biz
* FAV username
marks a person's last twitter as a favorite. (hint: reply to any update with FAV to mark it as a favorite if you're receiving it in real time)
Example: fav al3x
* STATS
this command returns your number of followers, how many people you're following, and which words you're tracking.
* INVITE phone number
will send an SMS invite to a friend's mobile phone.
Example: Invite 415 555 1212
Twitter Tracking Commands
Track a word on Twitter and get all updates containing your chosen word on your device! Note: track is the only command that is device-only. (In other words, you can only track from phone or IM, you cannot track via web or API.)
* track word: starts tracking a word
* untrack word: stops tracking a word
* untrack all: stops tracking all words
* track off: stops tracking all words
* tracks or tracking: returns a list of words you're tracking
Hint: track your user name to get an update when someone sends you an @reply!

I have compiled and compressed all of Crystal's wonderful info (and a little bit more) into a business-card sized "Tweet Sheet" that you can download and print here: http://jasontheodor.com/2008/02/15/tw...

How can I switch a mobile phoen number from one Twitter account to another? -
That seems like it should be a full question of its own. I think you have to remove the number from one account (in the Devices settings) then add it to the other account. -

Inappropriate?jted: Love your Twitter sheet and had to blog about it: http://blog.getsatisfaction.com/2008/...
I’m impressed
-
Inappropriate?Yesterday I registered for the first time, and I must say I'm impressed. I really like twitter, and I think there is a lot of room for improvement. I use Google talk all the time and would like to use twitter all the time through GT without having to visit the site.
I would like commands for allowing followers to follow me, see who I follow, and commands to block someone.
And a question: Why can't I see a picture of a person that makes an update in GT? -
Inappropriate?that is so awesome :) I will be passing it along!
-
Inappropriate?I'm glad you like it, crystal. People are linking to the Tweet Sheet from all over the internet, in at least 5 or 6 different countries (at last count). It would be cool to translate the Tweet Sheet (and the commands) into other languages.

Inappropriate?Question: Can I "@" or "D" someone I follow if they don't also follow me?
I’m hopeful it's "yes"
-
you can @reply someone who doesn't follow you and your reply will appear in the replies tab, but you can only direct message someone if they follow you. -
Inappropriate?@user works, though depending on their settings they may not see your reply to them.
On the other hand, d user will not work unless they follow you, and I believe Twitter will notify you of the fact that your message was not delivered.

Inappropriate?Doesn't #username do something in Twitter? I thought I'd seen some functionality around that but can't find it now.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?the hashtag before any word or name is a method that lets another site aggregate any references to that word or name. I'm pretty sure that's how it works.
This is from the hashtags.org site:
"Hashtags are a community-driven convention for adding additional context and metadata to your tweets. They're like tags on Flickr, only added inline to your post. You create a hashtag simply by prefixing a word with a hash symbol: #hashtag.
Hashtags were developed as a means to create "groupings" on Twitter, without having to change the basic service. The hash symbol is a convention borrowed primarily from IRC channels, and later from Jaiku's channels."
I’m hoping this helped.

Inappropriate?what is the country code to put in the phone number???
-
Hey Joanie, what country are you talking about? Also, this is probably an appropriate topic to ask as a brand new question. Please be specific about the country when you do that. -
I had the same question - the text describing the 'country code' is not specific enough; for instance is the US Country Code '01' where the leading '0' can be dropped? -
the US country code is +1 (no leading zero, with plus sign) -
Inappropriate?I have a specific on/follow/off/leave scenario I'm curious about. If a phone user has not signed up for twitter yet, and texts "follow username" then will they get the tweets of the username? Or do they first/also have to text "on username" to begin getting them?
-
Inappropriate?this is probably a pretty n00bish question, but how do you just update your status via SMS?
-
Inappropriate?The "STOP" command is the answer to the question I posed. It breaks the link with the account your mobile number is currently linked to and allows you to pick up the connection with another account.
I’m freakin' stoked!
-
Inappropriate?for honuduran people in hondurasssssss wich one code to sed messages
-
yapa, you'll need to send to Twitter's UK number.
You'll see the correct number when you go to http://twitter.com/devices and add your mobile number there -
Inappropriate?This is very helpful, thank you. Will there a @username LINK in the works to retrieve only urls they've posted? Or maybe a @username HUGbot for hugs and @username SLAP to wordslap your friends (bitchslap seems harsh) ;) Also, maybe a color template to choose shades of the direct message box? (love the blue, btw)
I’m a QA junkie. I dissect for feeds.
-
It might be possible to get the first item via Twitter Search. For example, this search returns every tweet posted by @ev that contains a .com link: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=fr...
You can use the OR operator to add add other top level domains to the parameters to see other URLs.
Not sure about the other questions, though. -
Inappropriate?When I'm updating my status, what number do I send the text to? Is it just that 40404 number?
I’m confused
-
Hi MayaPapaya27. If you're in the US, you send to 40404. In Canada you send to 21212. All other countries send to +447624801423 -
Inappropriate?confused

Inappropriate?does the 'track command' still work?
