What happened to updates / notices?

Have stopped receiving the new follower emails & direct text email notices since Sunday, January 4th. I know there was a similar problem reported in the Spring 2008 with a firewall issue. Is it an isolated occurance or an ongoing issue. Very problematic for timely response when not sitting in front of a computer.
