What is Twitters policy on releasing username(s) that are no longer in use?
I have chosen a username which already exists... I checked to see who/how that username is being used... (ie. twitter.com/username)... I get the following message: "page doesn't exist".
Perhaps the user deleted their account... or it is no longer in use... is there a way the good people at Twitter can check on this... and release the username to public domain... so that I may use it?

Inappropriate?They are not currently releasing inactive names, although they may in the future. The account needs to be inactive for 9 months or deleted. http://help.twitter.com/forums/10713/...

Inappropriate?Thanks KatGamer... Is it possible to tell how old an account is? If the username I want will be made public soon... I will wait it out. -
Inappropriate?I don't think you can tell how old the account is, but you can tell when their last tweet is by looking at it.

when I go to twitter.com/username it says "Sorry, that page doesn’t exist!" ... guess I'm out of luck huh? -
Inappropriate?I'm experiencing the same issue, though because the user is inactive I'm unable to contact them. I'd LOVE to be able to send a request to that user without having it made public.

Inappropriate?An angry co-worker deleted the account at our office she is no longer involved in our online communication and is the one who has the e-mail address and password associated with this account. Silly us for not having something that everyone knows the password to.
I tried to get us re-signed up since when you put in the URL it does not exist, but since you can not get a deleted username... I couldn't!
I will take any advice!
