Not sure how much traffic it was adding though the link now constantly says twitter is "stressing out". Let me delete my account.

Inappropriate?Hello. There's a note on the Twitter Status blog that explains why user deletion and user restore has been disabled for now (link here).
I know this isn't exactly what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention that you can restrict access to the messages that you've posted by setting your account to private.
You can do that by going to http://twitter.com/account/settings and checking the "protect my updates" option.
Once your account is private, only people you've explicitly allowed to follow you will be able to see the messages that you've posted.
