When is Twitter going to start releasing inactive accounts?
People used to be able to email username@twitter.com to get an inactive account released. This no longer is supported though. Instead an email is sent specifiying:
I would like to have a username that was registered in 2007 and has no updates.
Is there a timeframe we can expect or is this a lost cause?

Inappropriate?wondering this too. Crystal at Twitter had helped me before with username, and then I saw in that other thread that Twitter's not doing it for you, you have to wait until it's released. But the username I want should be released by now.

Inappropriate?I have this question as well but my case is different the person registered MANY usernames (10+) with different combinations. His only update is his email addie which was updated in 2007!
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I was initially told via Twitter Support, several months back, that it would be six months. So I waited...
Now: "Twitter is not currently releasing inactive user names. Unless your user name issue involves Terms of Service violations, you'll have to wait until all inactive user names are released. We're working on a better long term solution for this, and we should have more news soon."
I've tried, I've waited... If I just new when then I could schedule a re-attempt.

Inappropriate?My first name as a username had just 1 update back in 2007. Feels unfair...Gimme my name!!
-
Inappropriate?My usual username has just one update months ago and zero following or followers. So annoying.
I’m impatient

Inappropriate?Here's a tool that I wrote that will tell you when they (finally) delete an account and you can register the name: http://www.tweettaker.com/
Please let me know what you think!

Cheers - put in my desired account, now it's just up to Twitter to clean up their act and hop to it, quick smart! :( -
Inappropriate?Any update on this? I looked into this around 4 months ago and got the same reply;
"Due to high ticket volume, Twitter Support is no longer releasing inactive user names unless in cases of trademark or copyright violation. We are working on releasing all inactive user names in the future, however, we will no longer manually release them on an individual basis. We ceased doing username changes in January of this year.
Thanks,
Del"
I wish they'd hurry up and do it, the account I want hasn't updated since 2007... and 6 months!
@BeauGiles

Inappropriate?My requested username is coming up on the year mark for being inactive.
Twitter is probably working on how to charge us to release our names.
Grrrrrr.....
I’m frustrated and annoyed

Inappropriate?Its been 6 months with what used to be my twitter name. No name...no followers...no userpic...no updates. Maybe they should change their inactive user names info page since it does say 6 months.
I just want my name back.
I’m frustrated, annoyed, sad
