Inappropriate?Which RSS feed are you using and how are you reading it (what RSS reader)? Sometimes the Twitter server is slow when your reader goes to refresh the feed. Also, you may now have to send your username and password when trying to get your "with friends" feed (URLs starting with http://twitter.com/statuses/friends_t... ).

Ahh, that explains why SyndicationAgent recently started prompting for permission to use the twitter.com item from my keychain on OS X. Thanks for the info! -
Inappropriate?I've tried using both friends_timeline and user_timeline and I'm reading it via the RSS feed widget on my mikecartmel.wordpress.com account
-
Inappropriate?I am trying to subscribe to my timeline in google reader. It worked up until a week ago. Now this feed shows no updates for a week. Additionally, When I attempt to resubscribe to this feed by clicking the RSS button, all I get is a blank web page with option or selection to subscribe to this feed.

exact same thing here -
Inappropriate?@mike I tried this out and if you specify the .atom version of the user_timeline feed instead of the .rss one, I think it will start working again. I think the WordPress RSS widget is having issues with RSS-brand syndication (I couldn't get the NYTimes feed to add either).
@jds As of right now, I don't think you're going to be able to look at your timeline with friends inside of Google Reader. You have to be authenticated to see it, and Google Reader doesn't let you read protected feeds. Twitter recently disabled this to improve stability and there's still some debate on if and how to bring this back. -
Inappropriate? Thanks jaredg, I went to change to .atom as you suggested to find that the RSS feed was now working. However, when I changed to .atom to avoid the RSS issues the date of the Twitter was December 1969 :) Thanks for your help anyway.
Mike
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I am a little confused. I can subscribe to other friend feeds in google and they are working fine. It is just my feed I cannot subscribe to. Additionally, I do not have my feed protected according to my settings.
-
Inappropriate?@jds, I misunderstood what you wanted. If you just want to see your own tweets in Google Reader, try to subscribe to your user_timeline again. As Mike noted, I think it is working again; I was just able to do it.
The protection thing has to do with a change Twitter made to when you try to access the friends_timeline feed -- that now requires you to authenticate whether or not your own personal twitter stream is protected or not.
Sorry for the confusion.

Inappropriate? Thanks for responding jaredg. I was actually referring to my friends_timeline that I cannot subscribe to via a RSS feed. What is confusing to me is that I can select any other person I am following and can subscribe to their friend feed. It just my own personal friend feed that I cannot subscribe to.
-
Inappropriate?Just in case anyone hasn't understood yet. To subscribe to the "You plus friends" timeline you must provide a username and password. I believe Google Reader doesn't support this at the moment.
This was the problem I had. Twitter introduced this change recently with no warning that I noticed. So suddenly my feed was getting a 401 error.
The format to supply your username and password as a single URL is like this:
http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/XXXXX.rss
So that's username colon password at then the regular url. The http:// part must come before. So the usernamd and password are inserted right after the // before twitter.com. :)
I’m unhappy

Excellent! Thanks for the workaround, Callum! -
I appreciate trying to help, but this workaround isn't working for me. :-( -
not working for me either :( -
Inappropriate?I tried subscribing to my own Twitter feed (just me, not my friends) and Google reader picked up the 2 Tweets I had already made, but is not picking up any new Tweets.
I’m frustrated, annoyed

Inappropriate?Hi Callum- I tried using http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/XXXXX.rss as a widget and I get the error message. The only way I can get the RSS feed to work on my blog is to substitute friends with user. Is it possible to show replies in my feed on my blog?
-
Inappropriate?I get the same thing using SpringWidgets - it works with http://twitter.com/statuses/user_time... but not with http://twitter.com/statuses/friends_t... or with http://username:password@twitter.com/statuses/friends_timeline/xxxxxxxx.rss. Hmmm.......
I’m wondering...
-
Inappropriate?I can't add my feed (http://twitter.com/statuses/user_time...) to Google Reader, and while I can add it to Bloglines, after a day or two, I get the [!] sign indicating that there's a problem. Seems like something's up w/Twitter, from where I'm sitting anyway.
Dave -
Inappropriate?Following up, I've added a few more Twitter feeds to bloglines, and they too seem to die after a day or so.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? What I have ended up doing is to duplicate my twitter accounts in friendfeed to follow them in RSS. I use Google reader to follow them.
-
Inappropriate? Please see this blog post, which I think will help all of you in subscribing to your Twitter feed:
http://tinyurl.com/3tvrzt
I have used this technique in the last two weeks and it worked for me. It is based on some of the comments above, but I've written the instructions so you can see clearly how to modify the URL.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Jill_HW, looks like we've got two different issues mixed on this thread. One is how to login to get all of the tweets that you are subbed to (which that blog post addresses); the other is being able to reliably subscribe to a user's public RSS feed, which there appears to still be problems with.
Perhaps we need a new thread, to separate the two issues.
Oh, and thanks for the link, for those who have the "other" problem... :)

Inappropriate?Dave, okay...I've started a new discussion for my answer and hope that it helps people.
