crystal, i'm not able to verify my number. i send a txt to +447624801423 but the device status doesn't change on twitter.com and i don't get a reply. please help??? -
kareem, may I ask -- were you able to add your phone number in the format that Twitter expects at http://twitter.com/devices?
According to this page on ehow.com (scroll down to the bottom):
- the country code for Argentina is +54
- mobile numbers must start with a 9
- followed by the area code
- followed by the phone number
So an example of the phone number format that Twitter expects is +5492611234567 (where 261 is the area code for Mendoza, for example) and 1234567 is the actual phone number.
If the phone number is not entered in the format that Twitter expects, you will not be able to verify your phone. -
hi mdy, sure did - really not sure why this ain't working. -
Okay. Next thing to try is:
1. logout of Twitter
2. Go to http://twitter.com/account/complete and enter your number there
What message does Twitter give you when you click "continue"? -
looks like i leave off the '9'- when i go to
http://twitter.com/account/complete
and enter the # with the 9 it gives me an error. so i removed the
9 and it told me it sent me the verification code. but i never get it :( -
May I ask -- what error message do you get with the 9?
Anyway, the bad news is that you won't get a verification code even if you enter your number correctly because Twitter stopped sending sms outside of the US, Canada, and India. They just haven't had a chance to update the website yet.
But I wanted you to try the account complete form because if Twitter replies with a "we couldn't find you" or a "that number is already in use" error message, we might be able to try something else. -
really appreciate your help here mdy!
i just get a twitter error msg when i add the # with the 9: "Oh, snap! We couldn’t find you (or your device)."
just added the device in my twitter account. seemed to work, but i txt the verification code to twitter and nothing changes on the site. which was the problem in the first place, argh! -
Can we try this:
1. Login to Twitter and go to http://twitter.com/devices
2. Remove your phone (delete and start over)
3. Logout
4. From your phone, send "delete me" to Twitter's phone number
5. Log back in to Twitter and add your phone number (with the 9)
6. Send the verification code that appears to Twitter's +44 number
7. Refresh the /devices page and see if it worked
Note: The "delete me" sms command will delete any account that's currently linked to your phone so you must make sure to remove it from your account before you send the command via sms.
I suspect that when you first added your phone to /devices it may not have been in the format that Twitter expected. So when you first sent the verification code, Twitter thought you were a completely new account and it created a mobile-only account that's tied to your phone... and that is what's preventing you from successfully verifying your phone with your real account (Twitter thinks it's already in use elsewhere)
If it doesn't work with the 9, then, if you're up to experimenting further, you may want to try the same steps again but this time without the 9.
I'm not familiar enough with Argentina's mobile number system to know if it really does need the 9 or not, unfortunately. -
good suggestions, thanks! did all of the above both with and without the 9, and still no freakin' dice. sigh. i'm not sure what else can be done... frustrated :\ -
I'm at a loss too. Looks like your best bet at this point is to log a support ticket at http://twitter.com/help -- in it, please be sure to include your username and your phone number. -
will do, thanks for all your help mdy! -
