Why am I being charged for SMS?
I'm a Twitter user from Canada and just started receiving SMS updates again. However, when I received my cell phone bill last month, I discovered I was being charged for the incoming messages!
I called my carrier to inquire, and they said that the charges were coming from Twitter. They also agreed that the charges were unwarranted because I have a text messaging plan. So, why am I being charged? How do I get Twitter to stop charging me?

Inappropriate?I don't think Twitter can charge you? I would guess that your carrier is charging for text messages coming from Twitter, possibly erroneously if you have a texting plan.
It is also possible that the deal that Twitter has with your particular carrier has fallen through. They make deals with carriers to keep the text messages free for users.
Twitter mentions here that they are not interested in building a billing client to charge people for text messages. "However, international billing is a significant project and not something we are comfortable focusing on before we have a dependable offering."

Thanks. Everything I read on Twitter's website says they shouldn't be charging me, but my carrier says they are charging me and that I should contact Twitter about it.
I submitted a ticket over a week ago. I checked it yesterday to find that it had been closed rather than addressed. I re-submitted it. Hopefully they don't ignore it again. :/ -
Inappropriate?Twitter isn't charging you. It's your cell provider. If you don't have a texting plan, you will get charged for it. If your friend texts you, you will charged. Same thing with Twitter. If Twitter "texts" you, you will get charged, not by Twitter, by your cell provider.
