Why am I not able to upload a profile picture?
When I try to upload a profile picture, it kinda goes to a time-out and nothing happens. I did have a profile picture earlier, but now I just deleted the existing picture and am trying upload a new one. Does anyone have any ideas about this? It's .jpg and only 20K in size.

Update: we're still having problems with uploading profile pictures. This is happening across multiple browsers with multiple file types. We're aware of this issue and working on fixing it. Thanks for your patience in the meantime!

Inappropriate?I just tried to upload a profile pic that was a jpg and 20K in size and it uploaded fast and flawlessly (on OS X 10.5 with Safari 3). Which browser & OS are you using?
-
Inappropriate?i first tried with Safari and also with Firefox on Mac, and later with Firefox on Ubuntu. None worked. After reading your reply, i converted the image to PNG (using Gimp) and it worked. The original image was exported using iPhoto. Anyway, I got around the problem. Strange problem anyway.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Twitter is the biggest time waster I've ever seen on the internet. I'm trying for about an hour now to upload a profile picture and it won't accept anything I upload. I don't have a problem on any other sites uploading the picture. Why here?. I'm uploading on firefox, I made it square its 350 x 350. I even made it much smaller to try that and it didn't work. I've tried a file size as small as 56k up to 359k...NOTHING WORKS!!!!! This sucks!
I’m wasting time on this site!

Are you trying to upload a jpg, png, or gif? PNG files seem to have higher rates of success. -
Inappropriate?I get a "too many tweets" message implying that their server capacity is maxed.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?Hi guys,
If you're having problems uploading your picture, please send a ticket to support and let us know:
1. what browser you're using
2. what file type you're trying to upload (gif, png, etc.)
We have a bug filed for this problem but we're currently investigating. It appears at this point that gifs aren't uploading properly on some browsers; we're trying to find out if any other file types are causing people to see the same error.
Thanks!
Crystal

Inappropriate? Both Firefox and Chrome give me problems. Uploading .jpg or .gif doesn't work.
-
Inappropriate?I'm using Firefox. I tried to upload a new .gif - got the 'maxed out' error. Deleted my current image - fine. Tried to upload the new .gif - same error. Tried to upload a .jpg - fine. Re-uploaded my original image, a .gif - also fine. Is it possible that it's a characteristic of some .gifs, rather than some browser setup/file types?

Inappropriate? In another thread, someone said they could upload images when they were in RGB format. The image upload would fail if the image was in CYMK.
James: I realized what my problem was, I don't know if it's the same for you but the JPG file I had used to upload was in CMYK and not RGB. Open the image in Photoshop or some other image editing program and check to see under Image Mode to see what the color settings are.
I worked around it (before I realized the problem) by resaving the file as a png (which had converted it to RGB anyway). Hope this helps!
Caveat: others have also tried uploading JPGs in RGB format but couldn't upload successfully. But I figure I'd mention this fwiw. -
Inappropriate?finally solved the problem. upload in ie using jpegs works fine now. I think this is a firefox browser problem because i am using the flock browser

Inappropriate? The thing I wonder about most of all is that why isn't twitter doing anything to solve the problem? I don't have this problem on other websites.
I’m frustrated and confused!
-
Inappropriate?I was finally able to put up my picture today. I was using FireFox to put in a GIF picture. I also tried IE. Now it worked, with FireFox.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Have tried both IE and FF. Finally got it to upload a GIF in IE after converting the image from index to RGB mode
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate? The problem seems to be with gifs - maybe jpegs too, I didn't try that. However, I was able to upload and swap out pngs with no problem. Using Firefox on both Mac & PC.

Inappropriate?From the Twitter Status Blog:
Image upload errors
There are a couple errors happening with image upload for profile pictures. Some images become resized incorrectly and break formatting when uploaded. Others are getting errors when uploading images (particularly with gifs) even though the files conform to our size restrictions (under 700k).
We are reworking the image upload system to deal with both of these problems (and others). -
Inappropriate? Also having a problem uploading my picture but see that Twitter is working on it and should be resolved soon. I've tried both Firefox and IE.

Hi rachelteamico. A lot of other users have found that changing the image format to either a .jpg or a .png allows them to upload their profile pic. Perhaps that will help you too...? -
Inappropriate?Switching from GIF to PNG solved my problem, although strangely, I was able to upload some other GIFs just fine. (They just weren't square images.) All of the files I tried to upload were RGB, am in FF 3.0.4.
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Been having trouble uploading a .gif for my profile for over a month, found this thread and resaved it as a .png and it worked. It would be nice if the upload page or status site mentioned these issues.
I’m a little annoyed
-
Inappropriate? No upload after two days of trying...I'm using iPhone/iTouch with Safari--the photo is square, only 150x150 pixels, 15K, in JPEG format.
I’m pissed.
-
I too, had trouble with .jpgs. Only .png seemed to work for me. -
Inappropriate?I had a problem as well, but I was able to solve it. My picture had two dots in the filename (bla.com.jpg) and Twitter told me the file was too large (in fact it was under 10k). I renamed to bla.jpg and that solved it. I guess twitter doesn't like multiple dots...
I’m slightly amused
-
Inappropriate? There seems to be a filename issue. My image was called something like 8225.png and it wouldn't upload (or rather said Nice Picture or whatever and just didn't upload) and then I changed the filename to me.jpg and BAM it went just fine... I've seen this before on other sites but can't say for sure what the cause would be here...
I’m amused
-
Inappropriate?I've tried uploading a new user picture to my account, and the upload seems to go okay. However, when the page is refreshed and I see "That's a nice picture!", all I see is the default o_0 user pic. Sometimes I see a either the default user pic, or a broken image icon, even when uploading the same JPG twice. I've tried both PNG and JPG formats. I've tried the latest versions of both Firefox and Safari. The last JPG I uploaded was 50KB.
-
Inappropriate?I tried .PNG, .JPG and .GIF on Firefox, Chrome, IE and Safari... no go. I either get a blank field or the default image.
I’m a little frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I've tried everything today, and the service seems to be broken. Quite confident they are working on the issue. Unfortunately, these things break.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Just tried with jpg, gif and png 8 and 24, all RGB format. Tried on Mac Safari 4, Firefox 3.0.6, and Windows IE 7. Tried uploading the image as a background and as an avatar. No go anywhere.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?cmon guys this is simple stuff.
Any chance of a response.
When will the profile image problem be fixed.
I’m frustrated now
-
Inappropriate? There's a note on the Twitter Status blog posted 3 hours ago that talks about data inconsistency issues that they're fixing.
http://status.twitter.com/post/991808...
One of the side-effects of the issue is problems updating profile pictures. In light of that, I think it might be best to wait until they post a further update saying all's well again before trying.
I guess that's not exactly the answer you're hoping for, but at least we know that they're aware of the problem and are working on it.

Inappropriate?I'm still having problems with this, despite the data inconsistency fix. I don't get any error message. The little pop up saying "nice picture" appears, but there's no picture. This is incredibly frustrating as this is a twitter account for my organization, not just my own personal twitter account.
I’m upset.
-
Inappropriate?I am having this issue too! I tried on Firefox and Safari on my mac and on IE and Firefox on a PC. Changed image from CMYK to RGB, and tried png, gif and jpeg files. NOTHING is working.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Twitter says they've fixed all these issues (http://status.twitter.com/post/116659...).
Yeah, could someone please tell my browser that when trying to upload a new pic - .jpg <200k?
I’m frustrated
