Why aren't I getting messages people send me??
Some folks have been sending me messages, beginning with my name "@fordo", but I have never received them. They follow me but I dont follow them. But that shouldnt matter, right?
Pls help! I want to be sure I see all my messages!

Inappropriate?Hi there.
Twitter's FAQ states that you do not receive @replies from people you don't follow as a spam prevention measure.
You have a couple of options for making sure you don't miss @replies directed at you:
1. Track your user name by sending 'track fordo' via sms or IM. Obviously, this will work only if you have set up your phone or IM in Twitter's devices page (login required).
2. Use Tweetscan to regularly search for your user name. If you routinely use an RSS reader, Tweetscan also provides an RSS feed that you can subscribe to for any search.
When it's up, Terraminds Twitter Search also offers Twitter search features.

Inappropriate? Can't I rely on twitter to notify me, since my setting for @Replies is set to "Show me all @ replies"? It's still not working though!!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, the option "Show me all @replies" refers to @replies sent by people you are following but directed at other people that you're not following.
The key condition above being that they're still @replies sent by people that you've chosen to follow.
It's been my observation that Twitter prefers to err on the side of caution when it comes to spam prevention. The last thing they want is for people to receive unwanted messages and stop using the service because of spam.
I routinely rely on both Twitter's Track feature and third-party Twitter search services to supplement the native Twitter features, precisely for the purpose of tracking my username.
I’m hoping that clarifies

Inappropriate?According to the FAQ page to which you linked, setting the replies setting to "Always: all @ replies" will cause me to "receive all @replies from people I follow...". In this case, I receive an @reply from someone that I follow and who follows me, but I only noticed it because I went onto the actual twitter home page. It actually looks like Twitter is having technical difficulties right now, as half the time I visit the site I get "page cannot be displayed" messages, and I see other support issues from people reporting things like Messages to 40404 aren't reaching Twitter as of last night.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Yes, you're quite right -- you will receive @replies written by people you follow if you choose to receive "All @replies".
In my first response to you, I had (mistakenly) assumed that your first comment was still within the context of the original question that started the tread -- which was talking about @replies directed at me from people I don't follow.
If I've misunderstood you yet again, I hope you won't mind clarifying further...
Anyway, I looked at the thread that you pointed to (re: Messages to 40404) but it appears that the last update made to that specific thread was a month ago...?
And yes, Twitter's website does intermittently have problems... which is why I tend to rely on IM, sms, and third-party apps to get my Twitter updates.

Inappropriate?Doesn't the replies tab do this?

Inappropriate?Hi,
the response that I received from twitter cust service was incorrect on this matter. I CAN see messages to me from ppl that I dont follow. They are all listed under the replies tab. I am psyched.

Inappropriate? If you want to see replies to you: http://twitter.com/replies
If you don't want to see Person A replying to Person B: Thats where that setting comes in. (So if you follow A, but not B, you can hide messages from A replying to B)
