Why can't I delete or restore my Twitter account?
I seem to be unable to delete my account. I also can't restore the account to log in and try deleting it again. I am stuck in a loop and I keep getting error messages. Why can't I delete or restore my Twitter account?

Hi guys! Good news: there were some bugs in the delete process that caused accounts not to be deleted. We have fixed those bugs.
As a result, all of the accounts that were held up in the delete/restore process have now been properly deleted. This means you can attempt to restore your account now, and if your account was one of the ones affected by the incomplete delete, it will now restore properly.
There are still some known issues with the restore process, so if you still can't restore your account, send an email to support with the subject line: "can't restore" and in the body of the email, include the following information:
1. user name and the email address associated with your Twitter account
2. a brief description of what happened when you tried to restore your account; please include any errors you received.
Note: some people are able to restore their accounts, log in, and post, but their profiles are still not visible to other people, i.e., you get a bird page. You can test this by logging out and trying to view your profile as if you were another user. If this happens to you, please send us an email and let us know.

Inappropriate?We are experiencing a knot of bugs around deleting and restoring accounts. There are booby trap bugs in various places with both delete and restore actions, some related to each other and some independent.
We're aware of the problems, and working on fixing them. Keep an eye on this thread for more updates regarding fixes and progress.

As of five minutes ago, my account seems to be completely deleted. The reset password workaround doesn't even work now. What the hell is going on with you guys? -
Inappropriate?I'm having an issue with my account as well. I had set it to delete a few weeks ago, but decided to restore. When it sends the email with the new password or such, it goes to some totally bogus email address (definitely one I didn't use to set the account up). Any suggestions?

Inappropriate?I deleted my account by mistake. Now I can't restore.
It just keeps saying "Your account is being removed. It may still be viewable on twitter.com for up to 24 hours. You will be able to restore your account for up to six months."
When I click restore, it responds: "Your account is still in the process of being deleted. When it is done, (within 24 hours) you can come back here to restore it."
It has been like this for over a week.

Inappropriate?I'm in life without twittering *over one month*. I don't know how many of people got this (may or may not minor) problem, but it's too serious for me.
I hope this bug will be solved asap.
Note that the another way to fix this may be using Merb ;-)

Inappropriate?I tried resetting my password, I eventually got an email with a link inside to do so. This link logs me into my account, and I can even go 'home' and see all recent tweets from the people I'm following.
I can't however, visit my own profile page, as I am told "this page doesn't exist". Also, if I sign out, I am unable to sign back in unless I request another forgotten password email.
I can also post new Tweets.
So we're nearly there, everything now works for me except for logging in and viewing my own profile page.

I don't even care about getting my previous update stream or following list back. I just want my previous username and capability to use my telephone number back. How about it Crystal?

I found 2 loopholes (or "workaround") to post my twitters avoiding this bug. These are:
1. To use IM.
I can't login my account still now, but I could post twitters using pre-configured IM account before I delete or restore my Twitter account.
2. To login from "Reset my password."
With URL that sent to me with pushing the page's button,
http://twitter.com/account/resend_pas...
I couldn't reset my password but successfully loged in, i.e. I could browse my "http://twitter.com/home" !!
But this is so temporary login; once I loged out, I still got "account deleted!" message if I loged in normal process.
Note that there is no guarantee on your login/posting success.
I just wrote some way succeeded *for me.*

Inappropriate?I deleted my account but decided that I wanted to restore. Supplied both username & email address multiple times and responded to the Twitter-emailed confirmation link. Was told it would take a few hours to gather my old info and twitter would email me when my account was back up and running. Have never received the email & can't log in online. However, I keep receiving SMS phone updates.

Inappropriate?8 days now since last update from Twitter on this problem. Unacceptable. Accounts, at least mine, are obviously not deleted because I am able to tweet using the "reset password" workaround. Still, I can't authenticate through any third parties like Twhirl, and my actual page can't be reached. I'm so disappointed in the lack of response from Twitter.

Inappropriate?Very frustrating. Let me restore my account back, or at least let me use the phone number with another account. It's been almost a month now. And we are using twitter for project management - so for me it's critical to get the account or the phone number back.

Inappropriate?I understand that 2nd loophole (login using resetting password) is closed. I got a message "Oh, snap! We couldn't find you!" for now.
I hope this means "complete deleting" is on going, and then we can get "complete restoring."

Inappropriate?I have this problem too and emailed twitter directly about it as well. I accidentally created a new account and then realized I could just change the nickname on my old account so I deleted the new account, waited 24hrs and still can't use the new account nickname i had setup.. I also can't restore that new account.. whoops. hopefully this gets fixed soon. not a huge deal, but it's kinda annoying and I'm anxious to see it fixed. :|

Hi Janet. You can stop following this problem by going to the upper right corner of the Topic page, clicking the word "Follow" then clicking the link "Stop Following This Problem". Hope that helps. -
Or, click "Stop following this problem" from your e-mail notifications. That works, too! -
Hi. Eric. I actually tried clicking that link first, but when the topic page loaded, and I clicked on the "Follow" tab in the upper right corner of the topic page, it shows that I'm still following the topic. So I wasn't sure if it's working properly... Haven't had a chance yet to test it further. -
Yep, has been some wonkiness with that. We are looking at it today and probably tomorrow to make sure it is working right. -

Inappropriate?Also, one more thing re:above... I received text responses to my phone after restoring that said I had the wrong PIN but I'd never set it up to require one and it was set to NULL (no pin) in my device preferences.
Problem solved by deleting the phone number, re-entering it, and reverifying.

I thought it said an account could be restored for up to six months. Maybe they meant it could take up to six months to restore an account.

If I remember right, it's support {at} twitter {dot} com and help {at} twitter {dot} com. Having said that, I actually prefer to use the support page at http://twitter.com/help because it's attached to their issue tracking system, and I don't have to wonder if my email will be able to get through their spam filters. If there are parts of the form that are not applicable to your problem, you can just leave it blank. -

I think you may be better off logging a support ticket at http://twitter.com/help (though be forewarned it's usually 4 to 5 days before someone responds -- I suspect they have a bit of a backlog). -
Yeah, that's what I did ("no response yet for the support request at twitter.com/help"). Thanks for the time estimate though, it's been about 4 days so far and I was starting to wonder... (Facebook usually responds within 24 hours). I'll continue to wait, and try out identi.ca in the meantime... *sigh* -

For some reason I created an account on my phone that is not the same as the one I created on the web. when attempting to delete the duplicate account I got a message that said "twitter is stressed out and cannot perform this function" - what the heck?!

I just opened an account last night, and I couldn't seem to update anything in my account preferences without getting an error message, so I got the bright idea to cancel my account and open a new one, to see if that would fix the problem, just to find my email tied up in the old account. It says I can restore my account, so I click restore, check my email, for the verification link... I click the restore verification link and I get kicked to a page that says "Your account is ready to go. Please check your email."... What? Check my email for what? I never get another email... if I try clicking the same link again, it says "Sorry we couldn't verify that you requested an account restore."
