Why can't I verify my verizon wireless phone?
I have been trying to verify my verizon wireless phone for over a week now. After sending the verification code to 40404 too many times to count, I verified with verizon that the 40404 short code works with my plan. I have unlimited texting. Other short codes work fine. When i send the verification code to 40404 my phone says the message is sent but nothing happens...no reply from twitter, and no confirmation of verification on the website. I sent an email to twitter through their "contact us" link about a week ago and never received a reply. I just want this resolved

Inappropriate? It seems I am unable to send messages to twitter, but not receive them. These appear to be the same symptoms you are experiencing.

Inappropriate?I too have a verizon wireless phone and CANNOT send Twitter updates on my phone, nor receive them. I have sent the first code over and over, deleted, started over, STILL won't work.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I have this exact same problem and do not understand why it won't work. My friend who has the exact same phone as I do can use twitter, but for some reason it won't work for me.
I’m super irritated

Inappropriate?I submitted the confirmation but my twitter is still not getting any updates!

Inappropriate?I have a Verizon phone too, and it won't work. I thought it was my fault because the first time it asked me to send my name and I typed it wrong, so it made a new account. I had to complete it and delete it. However, I tried again, this time doing it right, and it simply made a username1 account. I keep trying to complete this to delete it, but it keeps saying twitter is over capacity every time I try, which I know isn't right. So now I'm pretty much stuck. The requirement to enter a separate email address every time this happens is also extremely annoying.

My way around this was to add a contact in my address book [i.e., Twitter] and assign it that number. Worked for me. -
Inappropriate?Anyone found a fix for this problem or contacted verizon about this problem?
I’m extremely annoyed.

Inappropriate? My phone was an unlocked phone and I think that may have been the cause of the problem. As soon as I got a new phone twitter worked.
I’m helpless

Hi Anton. Does sending 'ON' cause sms updates to resume?
Apparently, there are times when Twitter's sms doesn't get delivered to us (for example, we may temporarily be in an area with no signal) and the phone company returns an 'undelivered' notice to Twitter for your phone number. When that happens, Twitter disables sms delivery until it sees activity from your phone again (either when you post an update or when you send a Twitter command such as ON).
A more detailed explanation is in this FAQ page: My SMS updates keep shutting off. -
Inappropriate? If (as in Anton's case) the problem began around October 2008, and you're also a USA Verizon customer using Twitter's 40404 no. for SMS text, you might like to join the thread where Twitter say they are aware of this problem.
Otherwise, troubleshooting will be quicker if you include the following information in your post:
• Your country
• The name of your mobile carrier
• The Twitter phone number you use for SMS text (40404, 21212, ...).
There are known issues with certain combinations of country and carrier (e.g. certain carriers block Twitter's 40404 (etc.), though some can be persuaded to enable the number). -
Update
Twitter are now collecting information and experiences from users with this Verizon / SMS text issue in another thread. -
Inappropriate?I have this problem too. I've reported it to Verizon - they don't really care. I've tried logging onto this site a few times and added "I have this problem too" to others who have logged this same problem in different places, "threads." It is very frustrating. Twitter should gather all the emails and stay in communication with everyone dealing with this problem until it's fixed. Also, it is irritating to have to log into Twitter to test and check if the problem is still there. And then have to log in separately to the customer support service. Not to mention trying to deal with Verizon and Blackberry.
I’m irritated, frustrated and am not currently recommending Twitter to anyone.

Inappropriate?JRO:
crystal from Twitter indicates that Verizon is the probable source of the problem.
She is currently gathering information from all affected Verizon users here (please click).
Iin case Twitter need to repair individual user accounts manually, you might like to post the following information there too, so you're not missed out:
• Your Twitter username
• Your country - USA
• The name of your mobile carrier - Verizon
• The Twitter phone number you use for SMS text (presumably 40404).
• The 5 or 6 digit number (without the letters!) from the access code of any support ticket you've submitted on this issue.
That's where all the action is - so when the problem is finally fixed, we're most likely to hear about it there first.
I’m happy crystal is now working on this.
