Why is Twitter suddenly truncating my posts when I am within 140 characters?
Twitter is turning certain characters--quote marks, ampersands are two--into the escape codes for those characters, throwing off everyone's 140 character count and truncating posts. It now takes " and spells it out as [& quot] for example.

FWIW, earlier today this was posted on the Twitter Status blog, and ev just posted a tweet saying the problem has been fixed. It was also acknowledged by @al3x, Twitter's API Lead, on Twitter, and on the Twitter Dev Talk list.
I’m thinking they did an okay job at keeping everyone up to speed.

Inappropriate? The reply to trackback feature NEVER works. I can never tell which of my tweets a follower is responding to, unless they include context.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem as above! Fix it, twitter!
By the way, I have yet to see ANY "customer service" here. Exactly when do you respond? I have never seen a twitter customer service rep respond. If you LOOK at search.twitter.com and search for @twitter, you will see LOADS of people having this problem. Why don't you DO SOMETHING about it?!

Hi, missy. Twitter's support staff dedicate their time to handling support tickets. Generally posts here on GSFN are for users to interact (and the occasional employee interaction) on an issue, and for issues effecting many people when they need to debug a problem (which browsers/OSs are effected by a bug, for example). It's best to send in a support ticket, even if it is simply linking here. :) -
Inappropriate?I had the same problem earlier this morning. Count was 9-10 under 140 but tweet cut off in mid-url.
I’m frustrated

If this will be fixed "ASAP" how about a BLOG POST about it on Twitter's blog, and a STATUS REPORT on Twitter's status report? BTW, I *have* submitted bug reports to twitter about this issue and others and receive *no response.* Quit wasting OUR time as we twitter to @twitter in vain about this problem, since you are already aware of it! If you are aware of it, LET THE TWITTER COMMUNITY KNOW so we can go on about our lives!!!
And I truly hope this isn't another one of those "we'll fix asap" things that never gets fixed. I note it was first reported here 8 months ago!!!!!!! -
Inappropriate?thanks for sending me to this, jay.
my tweets are cutting off at around 125 characters. when you click thru to the tweet, it's all there, but the display in twirl and twitter.com as it lists tweets is around 125 char.
pls fix!
I’m sad people can't read my tweets.

Inappropriate?Still nothing listed here:

http://blog.twitter.com/
Thanks, twitter, for keeping us in the dark! Even Evan at @ev hasn't bothered to post about it.
I’m annoyed

Inappropriate? Please let the devs know it also affects our bios.
My twitter bio used to begin with a quote mark: "
It now begins with & amp; amp ; amp ; quot ;
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?really po'd about this right now. have to click on time the tweet was posted to see someone's full tweet and i don't have that kind of time. are we down to a different # of characters? wouldn't that be something we would need to know? what is going on? i feel it's unfair to your users to take up their time to read tweets that are the right length. this is a big problem!!!
I’m pissed, frustrated and generally unhappy.

Inappropriate?Just chiming in. I've only seen the problem in my own tweets, though. That may be because nobody has posted a tweet long enough for the bug to manifest. My quotes aren't actually turning into the words & QUOT though, but a post of 140 characters does end up being shortened and having the ellipse link to view the full post.
Not worried, I know you guys will fix it eventually. Cheers!
I’m not thrilled, but not too concerned.
-
Inappropriate?CitrusFreak12, if you cannot view this, try creating a 140-character tweet that includes "quoted material." This will trigger it and you will see what we are talking about.
And still we wait to hear *nothing* official from twitter. How professional of them. They can't even be bothered to notify people that there is a KNOWN ISSUE?
Also, I think it's unfair for twitter staff members to come in here and add their "feeling" emoticon to the thread. It skews the results. The "feelings" emoticon should directly relate to the *users* who post here, *not* twitter staff!
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?Yeah! What gives, Twitter staff! How *dare* you *post* your *feelings*! If I were you, Missy, I'd ask for my money back. Oh wait, I forget they provide this service to us free of charge. My bad. Me, I'm happy that they've addressed the issue and say they're working on the problem, and it will be fixed ASAP. That's professional enough for me, and I'm certainly getting my money's worth.
I’m not worked up about it

At the time of my post, there was *nothing* on the official Twitter status nor on ev's page nor on @twitter. It was added to the status blog, etc. afterward. The dev talk list is not something that Twitter provides us with a link to, so laypersons would not know to look there. We look at the "status" and "blog" links that Twitter provides us. Given the severity of the problem, they could have updated in a more timely manner. -
Inappropriate?Awesome, problem fixed in less than 24 hours (12 hours, if I'm not mistaken). Thanks!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Hello. In another thread (please click here to see, a Twitter representative, @crystal, has replied to say that the problem has been fixed.
If anyone continues to experience this problem, it would help to answer @crystal's follow-up questions in the other thread
