Why won't my twitter send updates to my cell? I just wanna be in the loop!

I've tried everything on the website to get twitter updates sent to my cell phone. My carrier is Verizon and I have unlimited text messaging so I don't think my phone service is the issue. I texted on to 40404 and it said that I would start receiving updates, but I haven't. I tried on @(my friend's account name) and it didn't work either. Please help! I have a Palm700i cell phone if that makes a difference.
