Why Won't Twitter Shorten URLs Anymore ?
Twitter used to automatically shorten URLs using TinyURL, why isn't that working anymore ?
Since at least yesterday, Twitter has not been shortening URLs with TinyURL when submitted via the web interface or via the Wordpress Plugin Twitter Tools.

Inappropriate?Me too! So instead of posting a few words to get people to want to click on a link, I can only post the link. Nobody's gonna click on a random link without knowing where it leads! Aaaarrgghhh!!!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I looked into this a little bit more. It looks like when the creator of Twitter tools did his most recent update it screwed up the filter that was automatically shortening the tweets. So now you have to go in and make the filter work. I am trying to do this through a plugin called tweettrack. Let me know if anyone else has any success solving this issue. I'll let you know how it goes. GRRR. Go check out the creator of Twitter tools for more info.
I’m still annoyed

I don't think this is a problem with the Plug in because the same thing happens if I post a link from the Twitter web site. -
Inappropriate?Hi Doug -
I know what you mean - some URL's are unbelievably long.
You might want to check out a tool that will insert URL's for you and automatically shorten them at the same time - it's called Lizzer.
All you have to do is open the bookmarklet, find what you want, then just click once to enter into twitter. Oh yeah - it's free.
Check it out at http://lizzer.com

Inappropriate?Hi Doug,
I use Tweetdeck and haven't had this problem. It seems for me to be primarily through the Wordpress/Twitter connection. Haven't had issues just with the Twitter connection. I suppose that could be the issue. Anyone else had the same issues as Doug?

Like I said, this only seems to be a problem for people who use the web interface, an add-on like Twitterfox, or some of the Wordpress plugins that don't automatically shorten the URL before submitting it to Twitter.
I've dealt with the problem by using my Ping.fm account to update my Twitter status and using a WP plugin for Ping.fm that shortens the URL before submitting
I'm still seeing it a lot in my friends timelines, though
