Will users ever get more control over notifications?
So while I was in the shower tonight I started thinking (because I always think about Twitter in the shower) that being able to follow both users and words is great, but pretty soon I'm going to start needing more control over what gets sent to my phone. I'd love to be able to block only certain terms (I really don't care about your iphone) or send messages from some people to IM and others via SMS. It would also be great to see facebook style rate limiting for certain zealous users (could also affectionately be called Nate limiting) who do interesting things but can be a bit overwhelming to get every update.
I've got some ideas on how to implement some of this functionality with a client-side app, but before I spend the weekend on it I'd love to hear where Twitter's thoughts are along these lines.

Hi Lisa,
These are excellent ideas, and we're definitely thinking about ways to make using Twitter better and more effective. Right now, however, our main concern is stability. Our database move is taking priority over everything else:

We've got the whole team working cohesively to improve the foundations of Twitter before we build more stuff on top of it. We don't have an exact time frame, but it's what we're working on daily. Expect exciting changes once the move is complete, and keep sharing your ideas in the meantime!
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I know there's been talk about specifying which messages and track alerts go to IM or SMS. See http://gsfn.us/t/7j5 for details.
But I wanted to pipe in and say I also love your two other suggestions, namely blocking terms and adding a rate limit to certain users.
I’m in a good mood
