$39 KIOSK charges for United Airlines Premier Line? Very Sneaky!
I was checking into my flight at SFO at the united terminal and was asked at the check in machine if I wanted first class for over 100 dollars. I decided no and clicked to the next screen. Then they asked if I wanted more legroom for 39 dollars. I said ok. Then I was asked for something called "premier line" for $39 dollars and I made the mistake of assuming that this was the same legroom upgrade that I had selected before and that perhaps my credit card had a problem. I said OK. Then I had to pay 40 dollars for my two bags, ok, fine. All said and done, they charged me 39 plus 39 plus 40. I immediately asked a flight attendant to change and she scolded me for not reading more carefully. She then agreed with me and said this tactic is actually BS and that I should go online and ask for a refund. Amazing! What I find most deplorable is the fact that the amounts are both $39 dollars. If the amounts were different I would have likely caught the error. United Airlines seems to be using some sneaky tactics. The woman checking in next to me also had the same thing happen to her. I have requested a refund and we'll see if I get it. My main gripe here is that this tactic is sneaky and that UA should at least be able to give you a refund at the check-in counter when the error is caught. Bad customer relations people!!!

Inappropriate? My boyfriend and I had this same issue today. For one thing, the DESIGN of the questions on the interface is misleading and the order of the button is intentionally placed to generate "accidental" purchases which (no surprise) cannot be reversed at the counter. As it turns out, you have to wait for two weeks for the POSSIBILITY of a refund. I now know this because he is a GUI expert.
I think United is at worst running a complete scam and at least has employed some sneaky, underhanded, non-customer oriented practices. I hope their CEO reads this and changes it. Shame on them!

Inappropriate? The same thing happened to an elder colleague of mine when checking in at O'Hare last night. They have at least changed the Premier scam charge to $45 but I even almost accepted it when checking in due to the placement of the button areas. I still have yet to get through to a UAL representative but they added verbiage to the terms and conditions of this "offer" to note that the fee is not-refundable.
Have things really gotten this bad for the airline industry that they have to run marketing scams at their check-in kiosks?
Wait. I already have the answer.
