Inappropriate?I was a Unted Global Services cusotmer back when I flew way too much (and worked for a big company). There is only one way to become a United Global Service customer -- spend a lot of money on flights. Honest. This level of United's frequent traveler program is awarded based entirely on how much revenue (and probably profit) you generate for United.
I was certainly disappointed when I stopped qualifying for Global Services, but my wife reminded me that the reason I had stopped qualifying was that I was actually home with my family. That seemed like a fair trade once I thought it through!
I’m happy not to travel as much anymore

Inappropriate?yep. i'm global services now and it is a two-edged sword. they finally treat you like a human...but it means you are travelling too much.
get 1k status and spend lots of money...that is the key. if you have to travel a lot...it is wonderful

Inappropriate?I just qualified for 2008 with 2007 stats of $60k ticket fees, 260k in qualifying miles and 110 qualifying segments. I'm also a 1 mil. mile flier and have been a 1k member for the past 10+ years. I equate attaining Global Services to what retirement must be like. You should enjoy it, but you're probably too old, tired, cynical, grouchy and tainted to do so. Other than that, I can't wait :-P

Inappropriate?I own a travel agency in Thailand, and understanding how different airlines work with regards to milage programs made me a free agent! I use to swear by United when flying Transpacific, but now I fly all over the place so I am not committed to any one airline.
Now for me price is my partner as long as I can bear the layover connections.
I’m confident
