I'm unable to subscribe to Chem 455B via iTunes. The error message I get is that iTunes can't play the episodes because they're no playable episodes, or text-only episodes or files iTunes can't play.

Inappropriate?Thank you for asking this question. We get this one a lot. If there is an audio player showing for each of the class recordings -- a long, thin rectangle with play and volume controls -- the recordings can't be downloaded.
The reason that the recording is available only as an on-line streaming option is because the instructor indicated that they were using copyrighted materials when they signed up for the service, and they do not want the recordings to be downloaded. That means you have to listen to them online, only.
There are a few main reasons no-download options are chosen. The first is related to legal concerns that the university or the instructor may have: Patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and privacy . The second is because we are not using Digital Rights Management (DRM), which is a way of restricting the free use and transfer of digital content. That said, your instructor may have had completely different reasons for restricting downloads.
