I'm unable to subscribe to Chem 455B via iTunes. The error message I get is that iTunes can't play the episodes because they're no playable episodes, or text-only episodes or files iTunes can't play.

Inappropriate?Thank you for asking this question. We get this one a lot. If there is an audio player showing for each of the class recordings -- a long, thin rectangle with play and volume controls -- the recordings can't be downloaded.
The reason that the recording is available only as an on-line streaming option is because the instructor indicated that they were using copyrighted materials when they signed up for the service, and they do not want the recordings to be downloaded. That means you have to listen to them online, only.
There are a few main reasons no-download options are chosen. The first is related to legal concerns that the university or the instructor may have: Patents, copyrights, trademarks, trade secrets and privacy . The second is because we are not using Digital Rights Management (DRM), which is a way of restricting the free use and transfer of digital content. That said, your instructor may have had completely different reasons for restricting downloads. -
Inappropriate?I had podcasts downloaded for the first half of the quarter, but when I docked/synched, the ipod wouldn't update to get new recordings. I tried to redownload and it wouldn't work. Now, I deleted those podcasts to see if that would work but am getting the same message that lileungli was getting. How come I was able to download them before but can't now? I lost the old ones I had and can't get new podcasts from the recent class sessions!

Inappropriate?Lina,
Thanks for the questions. This class has never had the download options enabled, as per the instructor. I have no explanation for how you may have gotten copies of the recordings before. Even if you were to subscribe, the most you should have gotten was an indication that new material was available, but download should not have been possible. The recordings are set so that you have to listen to them online, as streaming media. -
Really?! Well, now I wish I had just kept those...I think I had podcasts from early Oct to mid Nov. That's a shame.
But when I was initially tried to subscribe in October, it wasn't work. I attempted MANY times under the impression that I was subscribing incorrectly. And finally the recordings uploaded..hmm..maybe I should've asked here first before hastily deleting them.
