Why does my DSL speed vary so much?
What can cause my DSL speed to vary so much? It is advertised as delivering up to 768 download speed & yet varied from a high of 727 down to 390 today alone. Verizon checked my NID today & said the speed to the NID was 864. My ISP, Internet Junction, blames Verizon & vv. Could it be my modem?

Inappropriate? It could be line condition between you and the Central Office of Verizon. Also the distants from the Central Office for DSL to work good you need to be less then 3 miles from the CO.

The distance is 3.6 miles, but the speed to my NID tested at 864. Leads me to believe that the distance is not a factor. Am I wrong? -
Inappropriate?i had a verizon technician at my residence thee times the last one told me the company does not allow the tech,
I’m frustrated
-
"does not allow the tech" to what? -
Inappropriate?i have had a verizon tech come to my residence three times and all of them saiud the same that vmy signal drops off from the main box about a block away.
-
Is Verizon your ISP also? If not, they are at least responsible for the speed to your NID, not a block away. -

Inappropriate?Get cable broadband...you'll always get above 100kb data trasfer rate. DSL sucks!!! Cable costs the same.
-
I have resisted getting cable because I do not want to have to change my email address, which I have had for eons. -
Inappropriate?Yea- I know it's a pain in the butt (I had my old address since 1995), but in the longrun it's well worth the effort. Try to creat a new email address using the same "user name" @ ??? with your cable provider. And if you are using Outlook, do the following to notify your contacts. Also, some ISP companies provided a forwarding address service for a period of time, check w/Verizon.
Good luck, hope this helps!
