How can I get the VLC full screen mode to work on a secondary monitor?
I plug my HDTV into my laptop as a second monitor and play shows from VLC. Is there a way to make the full screen mode apply to that screen and not my laptop?

If you are using Version 0.9.8a there is a bug...
Here's solutions:
Solution a:
1. Go to Tools->Preferences...->Interface
2. Deselect the option "Integrate video in interface"
3. Play your video
4. Then turn the window on second monitor and maximize with double-klick
Solution b:
Use 0.9.6

Thanks! I found the relevant option:
preferences -> video -> output -> X11, there change the lower option.

Inappropriate?1) Double click the full-screen player to reduce it down to a regular window.
2) Drag that window AND the little playback control mini-window onto your second screen.
3) Double click the little playback window again. It should maximize to the new screen.

Inappropriate? Thanks, Jonathan. I tried this, but it always re-opens up on the primary screen. Perhaps it's the way I have my monitors set-up, and isn't an issue with VLC at all.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I don't see this option. I'm using VLC media player 0.8.6c (wxWidgets Interface) under Ubuntu 7.10.

This was in VLC for Mac OS X, I'm not sure where it would appear in the Linux version. -

Inappropriate? The best thing I've found yet when using the 0.9.8a version is as follows:
- Move the player to the second screen
- Open the file you want to play
- Right-click - Interface - Minimal View...
- Right-click - Interface - Toggle Fullscreen Interface
You can then right-click - Video and change the aspect ratio to suit your needs...
It all seems a little of a hassle but it replicates what the fullscreen should do... I hope this bug gets fixed soon... -
Inappropriate? On the mac version simply move the mouse onto the screen you want and hit command-F

Inappropriate?OK the latest version appears to work correctly for me! :) Bit happier now.

Inappropriate?Just been experimenting with this and using the version I am using on my Mac (0.8.6d - man I should upgrade!) I simply move the playback window onto the second screen and go to full screen and voila - it works. And I still get the use of the laptop screen for surfing while watching video.
I’m okay thanks

Inappropriate? For Mac users on VLC 1.0.2 (at least this is what i have), you go to preferences -- video -- and then deselect the black background... I attached a screenshot to see it...
