Push Delivery Reports
Push Delivery Reports for Eirtext Pro. On o2.ie, you're able to view the status of a sent webtext. Eirtext could possibly poll this data to retrieve when the status is updated to "Delivered" and mark the message in the history as such. Alternatively it could be done server-side and a push notification could be sent as a delivery report.

I've now added this functionality to the EirText for Mac desktop app. This removes the security concerns, as all login info is stored locally. It also keeps the service low-cost, which means I can avoid charging recurring service fees.

Inappropriate?I like this idea a lot.
The only issue I have with it is that it requires the user to send their login data to my server, as push notifications have to be sent server-side.
It raises security concerns, and would add extra cost to the app, as I would have to pay for and maintain a secure server.
If I was to implement such a feature, it would not be a once-off payment. A recurring fee would be required to cover server and SSL costs.
So, with that in mind, I'm not sure users would be willing to purchase delivery report add-ons. But, if there's enough interest, I'll look into it.
Vinny.

Inappropriate?I realise there would be additional cost involved in implementing this system, but I also read that you are considering implementing a subscription service for eirtext pro for push notifications. And you'd also have one-up over the default O2 Ireland SMS system (and possibly o2.co.uk - though i'm unsure of their system) - they don't have delivery reports without the *R* prefix in the text itself. If eirtext pro had this, I imagine a lot of people would use eirtext pro over using the normal SMS app.
If you wanted to test out something like this let me know - I'm a programmer with a reseller webhosting account and an SSL cert is only $20/year from my host. I imagine it would use very little bandwidth per user.
Even without the push notifications, having the history view in eirtext pro update with a delivered status when you open the app would be a handy option.

Inappropriate?Looking into it more, I've found that there's three possible statuses in o2.ie for sent webtexts - "Sent", "Partially Sent" (for when you send to more than one recipient; some may have already been delivered) and "Delivered".

Inappropriate? Thanks, I'm going to investigate this further over the next couple of weeks. It would be a great addition to the Pro version of the app.
