Flaky Intuos2 drivers under Windows XP

Intuos2 drivers stop working in 'pen' mode and switch to mouse mode spontaneously. Requires removing a configuration text file and rebooting. Problem recurs 10-20 mins after reboot (and usage).

Anyone else experience this?

BTW, there's some sort of Knowledge base entry that says they're aware of the problem and has a workaround, but it doesn't work.

Sadly this doesn't fix the issue long term. Something is broken in the driver.

    Q. My tablet was working for a while, then it stopped working. Now it moves like a mouse not a tablet. What do I do?

    A. The driver process has been interrupted or halted for some reason. A simple reboot should remedy the problem. If this is a recurring problem you may have a damaged preference file.

For a Windows computer do the following:

    1. click on Start > Search (or find) > All Files and Folders
    2. Type "tablet.dat" (no quotes) in the Search for Files and Folders field
    3. Change the Look In Field to Local Hard drives and click search
    4. Select the tablet.dat file in the Search Results Window and delete it by pressing the delete key on the keyboard.
    5. Restart the computer.

For Macintosh Computer using OS 9 do the following:

    1. Open the Mac HD
    2. Open the System folder
    3. Open the preferences folder
    4. Open the Tablet Folder
    5. Trash the tablet preferences.
    6. Restart the computer.

NOTE: When restarting with a Serial tablet you will see a dialog box asking what tablet you have. Select Serial when prompted, then Search for the correct serial port.

For Mac OS X system do the following:

For a single user, delete the tablet preferences by first choosing your HOME folder from the GO menu. Then open your home LIBRARY folder. Within your home LIBRARY folder, open the PREFERENCES folder and delete the COM.WACOM.TABLETPREFERENCES file. Log out, then log back in. When the tablet driver loads it will create a new preference file using factory default settings.

For multiple users, delete all tablet preferences by first opening the main APPLICATIONS folder. Then open the TABLET folder and run the REMOVE TABLET utility. When the utility starts, click on the REMOVE ALL PREFERENCE FILES button. Log out, then log back in. When the tablet driver loads, it will create new preference files using factory default settings.

NOTE: Do not manually remove the WACOM TABLET.PREFPANE file from the main LIBRARY PREFERENCE PANES folder. This file is only to be removed when uninstalling the table driver, and then only when using the REMOVE TABLET utility.

I have the same issue, (though would be lucky to get 20 minutes of use) The tablet works great on one of my computers so i know its not hardware, The only major difference between the 2 is that the computer that doesn't work with it sometimes runs 2 displays (monitor and HDtv) also the usb's are a bit wanky in that they work great with the mouse and keyboard no mater which port they are plugged in but i can get thumb drives to work or a usb aircard... but thats another issue. I've attempted to change my bios settings to see if that would make a difference (from full speed to high speed, 480mbs-12mbs) I've fully uninstalled (used ccleaner after uninstall to remove from reg) and reinstalled the latest driver it'll work for like a minute in pen mode then switch to mouse mode then sometimes shuts of entirely. another thing in the Wacom properties, there is no pen in the device section for me to select to make it pen mode. if anyone has any suggestions i would really apreciate it.
