Monitor user hardware as well as software
Could be cool if Wakoopa could collect hardware information as well. I'd gladly indicate that I'm an HP Mini 1120NR user, for example, or that I use some next-gen video adapter by nVidia. Someone might be happy to tell the world that he sometimes connects hid iPhone or HTC Magic to his PC.

Inappropriate? We've had this request before and although I think it would be really interesting, I don't see this happen on Wakoopa soon. Our focus is mainly on applications.
-
Inappropriate?Sounds like a real good idea. But how would you summarize the information? There's a lot of different computers out there. Could be solved of course, one way or the other.
I’m interested.

Look at steam, they already did this.

Inappropriate?Lots of software projects / programs especially in open source have to go to lengths to collect information from their users on what systems they've managed to get a certain program / module installed & working on.
If Wakoopa collected more detailed OS info (e.g. what version of Win / Linux) as well as hardware profiling, it could be a great centralised service for supplying this information to developers.
Also consider how valuable it would be for software companies to know the 'typical' configuration of their users. Many programs have a registration mechanism for collecting this info, but I as a consumer almost never participate in these because A) I don't want my system sending whoknowswhat info to every Thomas Richard and Harold vendor, and B) it's just hassle to sign up to all these separate things.
If companies paid Wakoopa for this info in aggregated form, I'd know they wouldn't have any personal information about me because they've never even communicated directly with my system, and I'd be spared the hassle of having to sign up with them directly.
(Note the awesome trust I'm placing in Wakoopa's privacy policy :-p)
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Great idea, having the wakoopa instances track the pc's they're running on, and report it to the site. However, this should one happen once per installation or on manual check. Would be a great to pull out a list of hardware I use when I'm at an other location!

Inappropriate?Hmm, I'm starting to think this idea - however nice it seems - would take too much manpower away from the main purpose of the site. And as Robert hinted, it's turning attention from software to hardware. I'm not so keen on this idea anymore, having pondered it a little more.
I’m lukewarm.

Inappropriate?I agree with what you say Finn. This isn't something that would mean a lot to me personally, but I think from Wakoopa's point of view, it would make a lot of sense - they might not have the resources to devote to it now, but it'd be a logical place for their stats and information business offering to expand to. It'd be kind of like what gdgt.com do, except dedicated to computers, offering more detailed information and users wouldn't have to enter their data manually.
I’m still positive

this is one of the best points

Well, doubi, 'the company has this under consideration'. And only 'the company' knows whether they can spare the manpower. Personally I'd prefer they'd focus on the software side of life. Maybe there's radical new ideas to be found there, that would boost this site as much as the hardware thing... -
Inappropriate?Statistics about OS (Windows, Mac, Linux) and OS versions on wakoopa would be interesting too!
