Is Weebly's server down? My site is unavailable.
I'm getting error messages when I'm trying to look at my published site:
"Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.behcetsdisease.com."
I'm trying to get people to complete an online survey before the end of the month, and this interruption in service isn't helping!!
I've re-published the site twice. Now what?

I'd like to give you guys a little more insight into what happened. As you know, over the past few days we've experienced intermittent, massive DDoS attacks. These types of attacks are unfortunately very difficult to defend against. You may remember the recent attacks on Twitter.com, knocking out the site for 2 days.
We worked around the clock, trying many different defense strategies, talking to experts in the field, and purchasing new routing hardware, but were still unsuccessful in fully fending off the attacks. Yesterday we purchased and installed an expensive device specifically designed to mitigate the effects from a DDoS attack. Chances are very high that the recent problems are past us and we can continue to provide the reliable service we pride ourselves on at Weebly.
We greatly apologize for the inconvenience that these events of downtime have caused you. We take incidences of downtime very seriously and understand the impact it has on your website's credibility and reputation. Believe me, we are as frustrated as you with the recent events and want to ensure this cannot happen again. We've also improved our communication protocols so that in the future, if a problem occurs, we can provide you with more updates, more often, letting you know what's going on and when it will be fixed. We want to sincerely thank you for your support of our service.

As you know, Weebly is experiencing extremely heavy load and websites published to their own domain name may not be loading. If you purchased your domain outside of Weebly, update the A-Records on your domain to point to 199.34.228.99 instead of 199.32.228.100. If you purchased your domain with Weebly, write a quick email to support@weebly.com with the name of your domain and we will update the A-Records for you right away.
Please note that A-Record updates can take up to 1 hour to "propagate" through the internet, but after this change takes effect, you will see your website up and running. We are of course working as fast as possible to restore full service and appreciate your support.

Hi guys,
Weebly experienced a second "denial of service" attack today, but all your websites were fully operational as of a few hours ago. We were able to modify the configuration on our routers to better handle the volume from today's attack.
The uptime and availability of your websites is our highest priority and we're thoroughly investigating the best ways to prevent this situation from occurring again. We are very, very appreciative of your patience and support of Weebly as we understand how frustrating this has been.

Hi All,
We are extremely sorry that your website is experiencing this downtime, and we are working as fast as possible to resolve the situation. Currently, Weebly's primary IP address is experiencing a "denial of service attack". This means that a massive number of computers around the world are all being told to simultaneously request information from our servers, which in effect, overloads our routers, and prevents them from displaying your website.
Denial of service attacks usually don't last more than 1-2 hours, but in this case, the attack has been going on longer. You may remember that a similar attack happened to Twitter.com recently. These types of attacks happen rarely and are unfortunately very difficult to defend against. We anticipate that we will have the situation fully resolved within the next few hours, but hopefully sooner. We definitely feel your frustration and are very appreciative of your understanding, patience, and support of Weebly.

Inappropriate? It would seem that the sites that are weebly centric are the ones that are still live. I checked my DNS and it is updated, so that is not the issue.
A quick twitter check revealed links with weebly in the url do work.
I did CALL them in SF and left a vm as well.
I’m really upset now as hour number 5 is approaching
-
Inappropriate?I also have not been able to access my sites for at least 2 hours.
I’m a new Weebly user and was loving it til now, when I am feeling anxious about using Weebly
-
Inappropriate?I'm also tracking this problem through jaiku, since weebly supposedly monitors that site(?)
Go to http://filmlady.jaiku.com/overview to leave a comment about the problem.
I’m VERY aggravated
-
Inappropriate?email david (founder) direct at:
david @ weebly . com
SF office phone number is: 415-375-3268
I’m wishing people would just communicate
-
Inappropriate?yep..cant access my site which is on an independent domain (non weebly based) http://www.bodyshockprogram.com either!
I’m pissed off
-
Inappropriate?WOW same here :( im loosing money as we speak :( im so pissed!
My site just doesn't load, but other sites that do not have their own domain do, its only the one that i bought a domain for!!!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? My 2 sites that are down and my partner's site (also down) all have their own domain names. Really crappy that they are not available today since we sent the URLs out widely yesterday.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem. No response from support either. Love the potential of weebly, but I'm currently looking for another solution. We have just outgrown them....unfortunately. Ironic that the free sites are working.
-
They most likely won't reply until after Monday because even with a urgent help message, they said to allow 1 business day for them to reply. Unfortuantly today is Saturday and we may just have to wait. -
Inappropriate?Same problem. I keep getting a failure to connect message everytime I go to my site address. I am using my own domain that I just recently transfered to weebly. I checked the featured site on Weebly's home page same problem there too. All other nonweebly hosted sites seem to be running fine.
Attention all new Weebly users: This is the first time since I started using Weebly this past July that a problem like this has ever occured so I am still loyal to Weebly as long as they get the promblem fixed soon
If anyone knows how to fix this problem:
I have a personal website:
Aaron Webster's Rabbitry that hasn't been loading.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I hope they fix it today. I get the most traffic on the weekends and if google tries to scan my site, im screwed!
I’m AGGHHH
-
Inappropriate?Weebly has a lot of potential, but, unfortunately this is not the first time it's been down for me. At least twice in a couple of months. That's a big deal! I have sites that have never been down in years.
-
Inappropriate? It was working this morning, but then I added a forms page from WuFoo. When I went to republish, it wouldn't load. My free sites work, and I thought it was something to do with the new form and WuFoo, but everyone else seems to be having this problem, too. Glad it's not just some stupid error on my part, but I need the site to work!
I’m a little nervous about this...
-
Inappropriate?According to weebystatus over at jaiku,
"We are aware of a problem affecting a portion of published sites, and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible."
You can follow their comments here:
http://filmlady.jaiku.com/overview
I’m glad that (after 8 hours) someone has finally acknowledged there's a problem, but wish it would get fixed
-
Inappropriate? Thanks Joanne. I saw another message at Jaiku that says "this is going to kill weebly forever." Well, I hope not, but I hope they can get their %&*# together because I love using weebly when it's working!
8 hours before even acknowledging a problem is pretty bad support. I wonder how long before it's fixed?
I’m waiting.
-
Inappropriate?Well, I guess they have too many queries to answer to...
Glad to see that at least someone got a response.
Still doesn't make up for the inconvenience...
I’m annooooooooooooooyed...
-
Inappropriate? This fing sucks this is the third time over a weekend this has happened to me within weeks. The weekends are my biggest money maker and I can't go on losing money like this, especially after I have spent so much to advertise my sites.
I’m f**** irritated!!!
-
Inappropriate?I am f'ing pissed off! I have a HUGE event going on starting Monday. Hello it's 2009, my clients use my site to acccess everything! Payment, scheduling! I am loosing so much money now - I cannot belive this!
I’m Frigging Pissed

Inappropriate?my website http://www.bodyshockprogram.com is now up and running!
-
Inappropriate?Mine is still down.
-
Inappropriate? One is working. One is not. The domain I paid weebly for is working. The domain pointed to weebly's ip is not.
Again, we may just be too big for them now. -
Inappropriate?My sites are working. Whew.
-
Inappropriate?Sun, September 27, 2009. My website is now down again. It was down for hours yesterday and as soon as I woke up today to try and reverse some of the effects of this problem, with my users, it is down again. I had hoped that this was just a one time problem. This is killing my business and hurting those professionals that rely on my company to assist them. Can we expect this to be an ongoing problem or will it be fixed as stated yesterday.
What is being done? Should I start looking for another web hosting service? Any suggestions? What is Weebly going to do to remedy this situation with their customers?
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Same here, I got a message saying all was fixed, but mine is still down too.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?still down - what is happening???
-
Inappropriate? My site is down too yet again: http://www.glutenfreemike.com Very frustrating. I e-mailed support again and this time did not even get an auto-confirmation my request was received.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?my site's back on! but very slow... may just be a problem with my PC...
I’m happy... but careful
-
Inappropriate? One of my sites is still down. Exhale.
As a successful business owner, I understand that every company encounters difficulties from time to time. The character of the company is determined by how the owners or upper management respond to emergencies.
For me, the lack of communication is insulting! I posted yesterday and sent them a courteous email that one of my sites was still down and no response from them yet.
Sigh. -

My site is up now but very very very slow... there seems to be a lot of bugs as well.
Anything to do with your server? -
Inappropriate?Dan,
I still have a sight down. Unless you changed your ip address and didn't tell me, it's not my A-record. The site was working just fine prior to weebly going down yesterday. -
Inappropriate?Same as Taajah for me... now it's all slow and some stuff doesn't load.
It wasn't the case before the "attack" and I didn't do any major changes.
Could you look into this?

-
Inappropriate?I'm glad to see I am back up and stable, but man this killed my busiest days of the week for profit. I know weebly is free, but I wish they would have let us know at their homepage about the DOS attack. I Googled the topic and stumbled upon this site. I would be willing to pay if the support was 24/7 via phone or email.
www.thepcdoctorpa.info -
Inappropriate? My site is down too. We would pay for having a back up - server plan for our site - as well as phone support! Not sure if Weebly is the best solution if not 99% attack proof. Might consider migrating...but will give it 1 more chance.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?my site is down yet again - this is a nightmare - been doing a lot trying to promote my new site www.weeklygolfnews.com and have important updates that need done on mondays- i cant do anything.
It is making me look very unprofessional! -
Inappropriate?Yep, mine too, AGAIN!!! www.WillardEnvironmental.com
Looks like I have some decisions to make, I can't have this.
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?I am having the problem too. My site came up about an hour ago (after being down) - design interface missing just text and then it came up a short time after. But it's now inaccessible again.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Yes, my website is down again. It will bring up a page every once and a while if I refresh the page, but then it will not retrieve the pictures. This is completely unacceptable. They have had three days to fix this problem. There has been little to know communication as to what they are doing to fix the problem for good and how long it is going to take to have their product functioning properly.
I would like to know how many businesses have been crippled like mine. I would also like to know what Weebly plans on doing to compensate its customers. -
Inappropriate?Me too. This is crazy. DOS attacks are primitive, the were made in the 90's! C'mon you guys have to get this fixed. OK, you got caught with your pants down and let it go through once, but daily? Are you kidding me. As much as I like Weebly, 1 more day of this crap and I am taking ALL my sites back to Go Daddy for hosting. The money aspect of this is irreversible, I cannot get back weekend or Monday sales. Way to go Weebly.
I’m FED UP WITH THIS!!!!!!!!
-
Inappropriate? Is Weebly throwing in the towel. Has anyone received any communications from them since yesterday.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem here and it still not sorted.
Mr Weebly, guys, I've only been using Weebly for a week and I am not impressed... If I hadn't paid for a year, I guess I would quit.
Dudes, your website thingy stuff building is great... and I guess it's very interesting for people who use it for free but why pay to get this result?
You need to find a long term solution.
Plus we don't get answers to our mails.
People are not going to talk nicely about you guys.
I’m not enjoying myself
-
Inappropriate? This current problem is perhaps WORSE than what was happening over the weekend - on Saturday the sites wouldn't come up at all; now it seems that at least part of the time the text only comes up with no images or formatting, which makes the site look primitive and unprofessional. Can we please get some information about when this is going to be solved?!?!?
I’m wishing Weebly would communicate with us.
-
My site has just come back up! We should make a mass inquiry about backup hosting - and see if they can offer this so blackouts don't affect our websites. Let's mass-email Weebly and ask them to find a solution fast! -
Inappropriate?not mine... some stuff comes up but same as what Milweed said
www.aurorablue.net -
Inappropriate? What on earth is going with Weebly? Posts are referring to days of problems ... Monday is usually my busiest day for site traffic and I have held back from newspaper/radio marketing today until I know how long and serious this problem is.
I’m frustrated
-

Inappropriate?I would not be suprised if there is a class action lawsuit in the near future. The absense of disclosure regaurding the potencial of a dos attacks is bad enough. Weebly apparently had the same problem a year ago. The fact that they are not constantly updating their users regaurding the status of these problems is rediculously un professional to say the least.
I am requesting a full refund of my website purchase price. Weebly has destroyed not only their own credibility, but the credibility of the majority of their users. This alone is grounds for major liability.
They have had three to four days to correct this problem, and I think it has actually got worse.
Does anyone have any thoughts about what we can do. My net loss of revenue is now approaching $2,000 over the past 72 hours. -
Inappropriate?Dan,
If we do NOT change the A-records, will the problem be repaired eventually anyhow?
It is a huge pain in the * for me to change A-records for the domain that I purchased through Just Host (www.redwingfarm.net), which has virtually no support and does not allow users to change A-records without calling support and holding for 60-90 minutes, then waiting 24 hours until changes go into effect. I had already been planning on switching to wordpress for that site, and will proceed with that.
The other two sites that I and my partner each purchased domain names for through Weebly (www.nourish4life.net and www.taprootconsulting.org) have been patchy all day today -- some information showing up some of the time. I will email support.
For reference for those just discovering problems this morning: our three weebly-published business sites were down all day Saturday, up again Saturday eve through most of Sunday (not sure when they went down again) and are experiencing major problems today.
I’m looking forward to this being fixed.
-
Milkweed, I've got the same question/problem about A-records. If I have to change the A-record, it will take several days to go through the company that handles it. Is changing A-records REQUIRED, or just suggested?? -
ABOUT A-RECORDS:
I just heard back from weeblysupport about the A-Record issue -- they said:
"All sites will be back up and running within a few hours, but changing the A-Record is an optional way to speed up the process. You can leave a site to the old IP and it'll work well once we're fully up and running." -
Inappropriate? My site, http://nathanrein.com, is loading only intermittently. I bought the domain through Weebly.
I’m so sad
-
Inappropriate? Not sure if its too early to say but my website http://www.bodyshockprogram.com just started loading up fluidly in its entirety, no patches!
I did however change the A records to what Dan had suggested. Im with godaddy so changin A records takes no time -
Inappropriate?I submitted a support request as Dan instructed, received a reply a little more than 3 hours later saying that the A records on my sites (which are hosted by Weebly) had been changed by Weebly support at my request. It has been an hour and 45 minutes since I got the reply from support and my sites are still down.
I’m increasingly peeved.
-
Inappropriate?Mine's online and opening smoothly enough I guess but still lots of bugs, as previously stated (before the server went down)
Some pages don't load properly and some pictures only open partially...
Check all this on your sites... might get a bad surprise...
Also got a(n automated response is my guess) message that they would change my website's A-stuff whatever... more than 4 hours ago and the bugs are still there... to my great dispair...
I will wait til morning and see if it's better then...
I’m tired
-
Inappropriate?mine is down again - anyone else? it wasnt working even when it was back - www.weeklygolfnews.com
I’m annoyed
-
Inappropriate?Mine's down again too. Holy crap. I'm REALLY trying to be understanding, I love weebly's design features and all, but I'm going on day #4 here with continually-interrupted service.
I’m getting resigned to this (which isn't necessarily a good thing)
-
Inappropriate?i seem to be able to do updates through the back engine but it just doesnt load - any ideas dan?? i have sent about 10 emails and yet to get a response.
-
Inappropriate? Here we go again! WTF!!!!!!! How hard is it to stop this. Starting to look for new hosting TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F Weebly and the horse they rode in on!
I’m Pissed beyond words!!!
-
Inappropriate? My site is down. It's been on and off -mostly off - for the last 5 days and this needs to improve. I'm in a critical stage in an offline biz startup, and much of my work out in the field, meeting prospectice clients and partners, is going to waste when they can't even see that my company is "for real" by visiting the site. I'm losing serious money, and I KNOW I shouldn't expect much from a free service like this. I really like the sitebuilding tool and all the cool new features Weebly are rolling out, but my plans to eventually become a paying user are quickly being deflated by this lack of reliability. Too bad, really.
I guess what I'm saying is - I would need a guarantee that something like this won't keep happening, but since that seems undoable I guess I have to look elsewhere. -
Inappropriate? My site has not been up once since this supposed "DOS" attack! Weebly complaints are piling up! On top of that, when I get a response from weebly, it's automated. Mostly, I have received no response at all.
Anyhoooo...I'm already rebuilding my website on bigcommerce.com . Yes, it costs more, but we are just too big for for weebly. I chose it for ease of construction and to avoid adding a web developer to the team. LOL. It has cost me more by being cheap. Lesson learned!
By the way...blaming DOS attacks is the new, popular way to divert blame from the web host. They generally on last a couple of hours. Then they move on to another company. For my website to never reappear, it's not DOS.
I’m stupid?
-
Inappropriate?Of course mine is down too...
Should we laugh about this?
I guess not... I don't feel in a funny mood at all.
I am a paying customer, like many others, but it makes not difference at all... no no... might as welll just use it for free or go look somewhere else.
Could feel sorry for them... but why should we?
I’m a-going nuts
-
Inappropriate?wow, its down for the 3rd or even 4th time now! When is this gonna get fixed?
I’m pissed
-
Inappropriate? Now I cannot seem to even access the "backdoor" -- weebly.com is down too! This is ridiculous.
I’m wishing there were an emoticon option beyond frowning.
-
Inappropriate?Anyone know anything about Yola (formerly Synthasite)? I've heard good things about them, but nothing very specific. They provide a similar service.
I’m going to change hosts
-
Inappropriate? In no way could weebly be so fragile. Or it just lost five paid customers. Yep, I used to recommend my clients to use the services. Not any more.
I’m thinking about migrating the sites.
-
Inappropriate?I'd like to give you guys a little more insight into what happened. As you know, over the past few days we've experienced intermittent, massive DDoS attacks. These types of attacks are unfortunately very difficult to defend against. You may remember the recent attacks on Twitter.com, knocking out the site for 2 days.
