Translation on Ning Networks
Translation on Ning Networks. The Google translator will only work correctly for Ning sites that do not require login to read content. I'm guessing it will also not work on Ning sites using their own domain.
Wondering if you could incorporate Microsoft Translator - which does work on all Ning networks.

This is true Avi. Ning has a problem with most all Translators, due to not allowing frame busting. http://translated.ning.com are the experts on this.
The perfect solution seems to be the Microsoft Translator, as mentioned above.

Inappropriate?I have a similar problem on http://flightsimulator.ning.com - the Google translation bar appears at the top of the page momentarily, then, when it looks like it's almost done, it disappears and goes back to the default page.
I’m indifferent

Google translator is a known to be problematic with Ning sites, On my site (seen in screenpic above) I'm implenting a different site bar, similar to wibiya, which among its various options also lets users choose either google translate or Microsoft translator. -
Respectfully I add:
I have 100% confidence in Wibiya. I do not believe they will have any issue with providing Ning Networks with a translator that works. However, I do think we have to show a little patience. Since Ning Networks are not their only customer base. :-)
Best Regards,

Inappropriate?Yes, I like the Bing Translator, but it's too big for the sidebar and I don't like it up at the top right like that.
-
I wasn't referring to the big widget at the top, check out jisbar.com to see how theyve incorporated Bing into a bottom bar. -
That looks okay, but then I'd have to abandon Wibiya... -
:) either that or second my suggestion that wibiya incorporate Bing too -
Inappropriate?Happy to second that :)
No offense, but translated.ning.com looks a bit of a mess to me - stuff stuck all over the place, largely breaking the site. -
Well, I never claimed to be a designer. Translated is a site where Ning network creators can get free language widgets to add to their networks, I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone to use everything I have there. -
@psionmark,
I would like to give my public assessment of translated.ning.com.
IMHO, http://translated.ning.com has helped many Ning Network Creators understand how and what to install, to enable Translations of Ning Networks. Translated.ning.com also offers other great widgets. I have found their selection to be fast loading and unobtrusive.
To say that "stuff is stuck all over the place" is not a fair assessment; when in fact, those "all over the place widgets" are there to serve as examples for others.
And your comment about it "largely breaking the site", I have not experienced this, whatsoever.
Truly, I'm not trying to start anything negative, here. I just feel they deserve a better recommendation than you allowed. :-)
Best Regards,
Jen -
Hi Jen,
I wasn't meaning to sound critical. It's just that, from my own personal experience, I wouldn't want to use most, if not all of the widgets put on that site due to the way it makes the site look.
As an example, when the page loads, the vertical Spellcheck widget covers up most of the Bing Translator. As you scroll down the page, that Spellcheck widget also covers up a fair chunk of the right side bar. This is what I meant by broken.
The site has a lot of good info, but I'm honestly of the opinion that "I wouldn't want to put that widget on my site if it made my site look like that.".
Just an observation :) -
Hi Jen, many thanks for the vote of confidence :).
@psionmark you're right about that particular widget, which is just an experiment of mine (it doesn't break the site in all browsers - and actually isn't even among the recommended scripts)
But I guess we've all got off topic, which was, Please, wibiya, find a way to add Bing to the wibiya bar. -
I'm with you on that one :) -
Don't worry Ninglers, We are going to provide a suitable translation solution for you guys. stay tuned! -
Inappropriate?@psionmark and @stsairi,
What a boring world it would be, if we were all the same, and agreed on everything - - right? ;-)
I'm happy to hear that Avi knows about our need for a translator that will work on a Ning Network.
Best to everyone,
Jen
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Hi Avi - any update on that suitable translation solution?
-

Thank you
