Inappropriate?The latest version of Wordpress is 2.6.1. Make sure your hosting provider has the proper MySQL and PHP versions - check out Things to know before you begin
If you really want to get started - you can open a free Wordpress blog account and then when you have your own site running - you can export the blogs, comments and pages from the Wordpress site to an XML file and import into your own hosted site
