A Comment, a Compliment and a Question..:-)
Hi again Nick - a quick comment - and then another question ( or two..:-) Firstly - the theme is absolutely great - I love it - and the customizable above the fold CTA has already paid for the template 3 times over in 2 days on one small affiliate site - the advantages of this sort of feature on a blog for marketing purposes, PPC clickthrough, etc - has mouth watering possibilities, so thank you!
If you are able to either advise how a clumsy coder (like myself) could edit the template easily for front page thumnails - that would be great ( or alternatively - if you are able to simply add a script that will generate them automatically - I'd be infinitely appreciative as well - and would make the theme FAR easier to use on multiple sites without a lot of image editing)
And two - I noticed in the zen to fitness site - the author is pulling post date/comments/etc on the front page - whereas by default - my installaton ( or your demo) is not. Am I missing something simple here - or did he simply make an edit to call that himself?
Again - thanks so much for a great theme - I'm not one for getting overly stoked at site aesthetics - but not only does this look great - it has a real, tangible and pragmatic value for Internet marketing publishers types like ourselves.:-)
Best -
ian

We've now got a patch available for Ice Cream Dream for those who want automatic thumbnail generation on the front page, together with blog comments and a "read more..." link, as can be seen on the http://zentofitness.com blog.
Here's how to install and use it:
1) Download the patch from here: http://wordprezzie.com/patches/icd/ic...
2) Unzip the file and upload the contents to your /wp-content/themes/ice-cream-dream/ folder, saying "yes" to any requests to overwrite existing files.
3) That's it! The automatic thumbnail generation uses a special script called "timthumb" by Darren Hoyt (thanks, Darren!). To generate thumbnails automatically with each post, just add a custom field called "thumb" to your post. It should contain the filename of the image you've uploaded with the jpg, png, or gif extension like this:

Note that you no longer have to resize the image. Simply add the full name of the image in the custom field and you're done.
If you have any questions or further comments, don't hesitate to add to the discussion here.
I’m patched up and ready to go

Inappropriate?Hi Ian
Thanks ever so much for the kind words -- they mean a lot to us!
I've been reviewing the various thumbnail options over the weekend, and think I have a solution that I'm happy with now. I'll update the homepage code, and combine it with the custom date/comments hack (that we coded for him) so that you've got both to play with. I'll send out an updated version of the code before the end of the week -- hopefully later today if time allows.
Thanks again for your compliments -- hope you continue to enjoy the theme!
Best wishes
Nick

Inappropriate?Hi Nick -
Thanks so much for the patch!
Now - just because it can't be that easy....another question..:-)
For some odd reason - the script isn't generating thumbs for me - have used timthumb before ( as I believe it is the defacto script on a bunch of the premium news themes since Mimbo released it) I'm trying to get this to work on a godaddy hosted box - I can't find the GD library in their knowlege base, which leads me to believe that's the problem. Is there anything else I would look for - i.e - permission settings, etc - or should I simply assume Godaddy won't support it if it's not functioning straight away?
(I called godaddy - guy told me he has "heard of image library before" but that was the extent of help..;-)
Thanks - and no worries - if there is nothing else that can be done - I'll simply get a new host for domains I want to use theme on!

Inappropriate?Hey Ian
You're very welcome. Yes -- it sounds to me like the GD library might not be included in your hosting package. Here's a quick way to confirm this:
1) Create a blank file called "info.php" in your website root directory
2) Copy and paste the following line into it and save the file:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
3) Browse to yoursite.com/info.php in your web browser.
4) Search the page for text containing the words "GD Support". You should see a box like this one, which should be labelled "enabled":

If you don't see that box, or it reads "disabled" instead, GD isn't installed. It's worth asking your host if they can offer it on another shared server for you, or enable it on your existing box.
Otherwise, I'm afraid you're right -- perhaps it's time to switch hosts!
Let me know if you need anything else.
Best wishes
Nick

I’m wishing that more hosts supported GD!

Inappropriate?Hi Nick -
GD library is indeed enabled - yet, for some exceedingly strange reason, the thumbs still don't show.

When I use the thumb field - it simply the post without an image - and instead - leaves the post "title" adjacent to the post as illuminated with this screenshot from an affiliate blog we're playing with this on.

When I look at the image location - for the missing thumb - it gives me this long string:
http://thetruthaboutfatloss4idiots.in...
(with the image here being the images I'm trying to call)
I'm not sure how the tim thumb script SHOULD reference the image - but something tells me this isn't right..:-)
This is not my forte obviously - but have worked with themes before that had this script installed - and have never had this happen - although I do believe it's probably a simple fix I'm just missing.
It's not a huge deal - and can work around it obviously - ( as I just put a
decent default icon to over-write the "cross-png" for each color - and limit the front page to one post or category - but this isn't ideal obviously) so if there is
something that you see that would be an obvious fix - I appreciate your input!
(and sorry for the repeated issue - I'm just really love the theme and want to get it right - especially considering you took the time to patch it for all!)
:-)
Ian
PS ( actually - I can see that the link above is generating a bunch of absolute URL's....not sure why - but surely that is the problem!)
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Hi Ian
Sorry to hear it's not working out, but pleased that you've got GD installed! Let's get it working for you.
Please can you try this for me:
1) Login to your WordPress admin
2) Click "settings" and then "miscellaneous"
3) Uncheck "Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders"
4) Go back to your post, re-upload the same image, and make sure that the custom field is still named correctly.
Hopefully this will fix things -- let me know if you're still having trouble and I'll jump on it tomorrow.
Best wishes
Nick

Inappropriate?Another thing to check is that the "thumb" value in the custom field is the image name only (i.e. "myimage.jpg") and not the full path to the file.
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately....no...:-(
(although I would have never thought of that!)
I'll do a little more searching online to see - I remember when Darren released the tim thumb script, some folks using a few of the themes that implemented it were reporting problems of this sort.
I'll keep looking - now I'm on a mission to get it working - I'm sure it will end up being something very simple!
(although I've installed the theme on 3 separate servers - all not generating the thumb..:-(
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hi Ian
Sorry to hear it's still not working. You're very welcome to email your WP and FTP login details to me at help@wordprezzie.com -- I'd be happy to have a look and see what could be causing it.
We have the thumbnail part of the patch running fine on http://icecreamdream.wordprezzie.com so I suspect it's a server issue. Forward me your info when you get a moment and I'll be happy to help.
Best wishes
Nick
